Comments about Tascam SS-CDR1 Rack Mount Compact Flash/CD Recorder:
I installed this for our church choir, both for reliable CD playback and for the ability to record piano accompaniment tracks via XLR mikes to the CF card and then burn CDs for choir members to take home and rehearse with.
CF recording is reliable, and makes burning multiple duplicates to CD easier than having the accompanist play the same piece over and over for each recording.
On the con side, it is essentially a computer, which means doing anything other than pressing play, involves learning the sequence of button presses and knob turns to access the required functions. If you have used a MD player/recorder, then this is nothing you haven't already seen before.
While a bit complex, it is not difficult to learn, just takes some practice.

Comments about Tascam SS-CDR1 Rack Mount Compact Flash/CD Recorder:
Great CD mastering unit for burning CDs in the field at live events, or if you don't like using a computer.
Being able to record to compactflash is also handy, and the ability to burn recordings from flash to CD is very useful for providing multiple CDs to people on the spot. Some decent, simple, editing features when you're recording to CF.
No problems with sound quality so far, nice to have balanced XLR in/outs on the back.
