The 4-Port Gigabit Security Router with VPN from Linksys combines the functions of a Cable/DSL router, an IPSec VPN gateway, a network switch, and network firewall into one compact device. The router allows you to share your Internet connection between several computers that can connect via four standard RJ-45 Ethernet ports. The router also features a firewall to protect you from malicious software that can attack your computer from the Internet, making it an excellent choice for your home or office network.

Comments about Cisco 4-Port Gigabit Security Router with VPN:
This is an excellent wired router for small businesses or even residential use wanting to really upgrade a network (BTW, it's now under the Small Business line, not the Linksys line anymore, so tech support is even better). It took just one call to support to get my router online and working with my Static IP connection. Bandwidth seems extremely fast, even for items connected to our power line adapter network. The firewall is easy to configure, and the IPS functionality adds an additional level of protection. The VPN wasn't too hard to setup, but it a little clunky on our Win 7 machine to connect, as well as it requires third party software on our Macs, but it's not a major issue, especially since we also have a third party VPN service to fall back on. I haven't tried the ProtectLink service yet, but it does look like a nice additional level of protection for small businesses and a breeze to setup it seems. All in all, great router, and I would highly recommend it!

Comments about Cisco 4-Port Gigabit Security Router with VPN:
Here is a capable SMB router. Has some high end features like a SPI firewall, VLAN support for each port, 4x 1 GB network connections, and support for 5 VPN connections. All is all, my experience with this equipment has been possitive. I did purchase one unit that was defective, but the replacement unit has worked without issue. As a systems engineer, I give this unit my professional recommendation.

Comments about Cisco 4-Port Gigabit Security Router with VPN:
Too good and professional for the money I paid. I heard that people who bought it complained after that. Of course it wouldn't work just after hooking the cables. The MAC address must be cloned. But then it fly. A lot of features like traffic prioritizing, VLAN with inter-VLAN routing, possiblity to work like a router (without NAT) or like a gateway (with NAT). Amazing.

Using product for home network with Home Control components - ie. controller for A/V, lighting, HVAC, etc. - in addition to two Wireless Access Points and two desktop PCs. Great unit to reliably handle all this network traffic.

Comments about Cisco 4-Port Gigabit Security Router with VPN:
I use the RVS4000 in a gigbit home network environment. Initial set up is easy. Device is support by Cisco, not LinkSys Factory Support (this is good). However, VPN setup is very complicated and time consuming. The provided Quick VPN utility is quirky and dificult to configure. Site-to-site VPN is straightforward. However, remote access (i.e. through a hotspot) is VERY time consuming. Mine still does not work well. Provided documentation is barely adequate. My set up required multiple calls to Cisco Support. Encountered many problems on setting up single port forwarding. Still have problems witht the router dropping the IP conncection intermittently. Major firmware upgrade is needed.
