Manfrotto 088LBP Female 1/4"-20 to Male 3/8" Thread Adapter, with 1.18" Diameter Flange
This Manfrotto 088LBP Adapter is a 1/4"-20 to 3/8" adapter, with flange. It is also known as a reducing bushing; it is for use with light stands or tripods that have a top screw of 1/4"-20, or when the camera or lighting fixture to be used only has a 3/8"(Euro) threaded receptor.
This item replaces old catalog #3367.

This adapter allowed me to use a new Manfrotto 324RC2 swivel ball type tripod head with a 3/8" hole on an older, sturdy Slik U212 tripod with a 1/4" thread. The adapter fits directly on top of the tripod screw and top surface. The adapter plate is not as wide as the top of the tripod and there is a little bit of a gap between the top plate of the tripod and the bottom plate of the tripod head, however, it does not seem to affect the sturdiness at all. Easy to install, starting using my new Manfrotto right away.

So this thing does what it says with a catch. Since it is rubber coated, there will be some play with whatever camera or device you put on top of it. Personally - I think that is ridiculous. What do I mean? - I mean that the unit will be able to move side to side and whatnot ontop of this mount.

I use use the item to attach a Manfrotto 222 "jopystick" head with a female 3/8 inch Tripod Mount Thread Size to a Linhof tripod with a 1/4 inch Tripod Mount thread. It does the job perfectly and the low profile nature is particularly well suited to the joystick head. No real negative aspects although once screwed on finger tight you probably need a pliers of some sort of grip to start reversing it off.

I have a bunch of Manfrotto heads that needed to be mounted to various tripods that all have 1/4-20 plates. Don't bother with a 3/8th sleeve adapter, this is the way to go.
