I bought this boom stand for the studio Hair Light and also to be use on location with Speedlights. It is bigger and better than I thought it would be; very well built and holds all I need with ease.

I wish I could take the boom arm off the stand, but it does not look like it was designed to come off.

one of my most satisfied purchase...
I use it for mount light/flash as well as micphone...
It can do everything for me...
and it is sturdy...at least for indoor..have not used for outdoor..so not sure..
I have used it with 3feet by 4feet softbox with flash..no problem
I am happy that it come with sandbag..
It also has both 1/4 and 3/8 stud...no need to buy adaptar
it is long when folded..u need to buy at least 46" bag to hold it

I wanted something small and portable - great product. The counterweight is empty so you must provide rocks/sand/lead shot your self.

Have had mine for over a year. Excellent build quality. Use for all of my location portraiture work. Very reliable, light-weight (reasonably) to move around, functional for different lighting setups. Goes everywhere...

Only thing is perhaps another counter-weight for the legs as when in boom mode the supplied counter-weight is use to counter balance the boom and won't hold the stand down against moderate wind.

So I was looking for a cheap/portable boom stand for my speedlite/beauty-dish combo. I scoured the internet and thought that the Interfit Combi boom stand would fit the bill. It did fit the bill but it felt like the boom arm was going to snap in half with it fully extended. I wasn't about to let my 580ex2 and my 16' BD go crashing down on my subject during a shoot.

Thus began my mission to find a better portable boom stand. The 420B combi boom stand by manfrotto is much more solid. It's definitely worth the small increase in price. I like how the sandbag comes with a hook you can conveniently attach to the opposing end of the arm to act as counterweight. It is slightly bigger and therefore less portable than the interfit boom, but much much sturdier and well constructed. You will not be disappointed.

The combi boom stand is a super design. We use it for location lighting as a hair light. Ease of set up is great. Compact design, ease of set up, solid support for light head. We love the one piece functionality.

Was a bit concerned that it might be not tall enough in the boom configuration - but so far it worked perfectly... Very solid and very well made.

It's exactly what you would expect from Manfrotto, lightweight, sturdy, easy to setup, versatile and the price is not bad either:) The only thing bad about this is the closed length wich is a tad longer so the bag that I wanted to use for this (Manfrotto 3281B) did not fit.

This boom can also be used a stand and it's pretty solid however you use it. I mainly use it with a softbox above me on camera axis close to the subject or an umbrella above the subject, pointing down with no issues. Make sure you use the counter weight bag though.

Can be used a a boom or a regualr stand. I have two of them and have used them to hold 3 kg lights plus medium softboxes overhead with no problem. The only flaw is that unlike the super booms, the lever to release the boom for extension, also releases it for pivoting - it is easier to use with two people, but with care one works fine.

I bought this product to use with my softbox, to be able to get more angles out of them. I also needed it to be fairly mobile, since I am always on location shoots. I would have gotten C stands if I wanted the sturdiest of all, but mobility and it's fold up design is definitely a thumbs up for me. I love the design of the boom arm on this one, with one flip of a switch, the boom arm can transform into a simple lightstand, to a boom arm. The knobs on the stand have a rubber coating on them, a very nice touch. I have added a umbrella holder at the end, and it's mounting points are highly adjustable as well.

Only con to this product is that it gets a little bendy when you start putting studio strobes and modifiers, but that is to be expected of something lightweight.

I use it to hold a flash with a snoot
to create hair highlights in portraits.
Like all the Manfrotto equipment I've
used it is solid and reliable.

Not as tall or as heavy duty as
some units, but mine only sees lite
duty.

The quality of the Manfrotto product was good.

I will be mainly using for a light hair light above clients heads for portrait photography.

The sand bags were kinda small .

The main light stand is versatile.

I use this to hang a backlight when I'm shooting an interview. It is great because it is light weight and comes with an empty sandbag that you can weight with batteries or whatever you are carrying with you. Having this eliminates the need for carrying a c-stand for simple shoots.

I use this to mount a light box. It's solid and works perfectly but you must counter-weight it to keep the lightbox balanced properly.
I didn't like that it's a bit cumbersome to hold a heavy lightbox in place with one hand to mount it. I could have used an assistant if I had one (which I don't.)
Once it was set up it was easy to use.
