Why did I wait so long to buy a monopod? The B&H combo deal of the Manfrotto 679B monopod with the quick detachable 234 RC head is perfect!Together they work in perfect harmony. Light and easy to master. Where I would leave my cumbersome heavy and cheap tripod behind, I now take my light and high quality Manfrotto monpod along for the day.Tall enough for an easy six footer to view - no stooping! The leg latches are quick and easy to use. Drop down to knee hight in a second. The head very easily transitions from landscape horizontials to portrait verticals. For hot & heavy off hand action, just ditch the stick with the flick of a lever! For less than [$], you just can't beat it!

The Manfrotto 679B monopod is a very sturdy unit. It extends quickly and smoothly w/ flip locking levers. It is not 63 3/4" tall however. It is 61 5/8" tall. This is somewhat of an issue for me as I'm 6'3" (75") tall. The 2 1/8" difference won't effect me too much, but if you are looking for a taller monopod, you'll need to look elsewhere.
Other than that, it has a neat retracting 3/8" and 1/4" thread capability to handle many differnet equipments types. This unit works well with my large and heavy sports lenses, supporting them easily.

Very happy with the quality of the monopod, having to deal with only two leg locks makes for quick set up.Very stable when set up,is not very compact so if that is important to you- make sure to check size.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):
I love to go hiking and carrying a regular tripod was just too much weight. This is much lighter and I can sharper pics then handholding the camera, especially with a heavier telephoto lens. It is not steady enough to do long exposures, but that is to be expected with a monopod .

Sports use. Legs slide nicely and quickly. Latches solid and easy to use blind. Perfect for 6 foot height but not an inch higher. It goes without saying pictures are significantly sharper than hand held. Affordable, so you don't have one more pricey thing to worry about.

Excellent choice for this price: it's very robust and high quality but not too heavy and a real bargain for this price.
Does the job without problems in any condition, it's easy to operate and fits very well in your hand: no weak point!

The Manfrotto 679B monopod is sturdy, reasonably priced, and a very useful accessory for sports or wild life photography. The build quality appears to be very good and I expect this monopod will serve me for many years.

A light weight alternative to a tripod which I chose to carry around in nature and for city trips. The monopod can be easily attached to my photo bag (Lowepro AW200) and is installed within seconds. The three-section monopod remains a bit longer than the four-section one, but it is extended a bit faster (only two releases instead of three). Very stable construction!

I used this a lot for DSLR filming with my 70-200 lens and also, for my GoPro to film close race action. Got confused with the screw setup as you have to push down the 3/8 screw to get to the small screw needed for the GoPro's or DSLR's tripod screw hole. Otherwise, it's solid and strong!

I bought this product on the recommendation of my cinematography instructor for use with my Canon 7D. I am making short films and when doing hand held camera work, the camera is a bit heavy for me to hold, and thus, unsteadier than it ought to be. I bought a glide cam but I'm still learning to use it. A monopod was recommended as another option. So far, I've used it once and it worked great. I shot an action scene and it gave the camera movement but also, kept it steadier then if I'd just held it myself. Love it!!

This product was bought mainly to hold an off camera flash. Seems to be a solid product that will do just that for many years.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):
I would give it 4.5 stars if I could, only because the hand strap was useless to me and the quick release w/200PL-14 plate didn't work well with the monopod. The camera base on the monopod is very wide, which is great for just a camera, but the QR adapter isn't wide enough to clear the base. The level screw on the bottom of the QR plate was firm against the monopod base making it hard to open and close the QR mechanisim... Nearly defeating the purpose. I couldn't have the hand strap around my camera hand, and needed my left hand on the lens. There was no way for me to use the hand strap at all while shooting. It fell off at one point, didn't really notice it was missing until I went to put the monopod in my bag. I didn't really care either.
The monopod itself was amazing. I had no problems with it at all, plus it really saved my arms from fatigue. It will be there with me whenever I am shooting sports.

Standard pro equipment. Bought this mainly for use with my 70-200 2.8 L series and other longer lens, but have found many other uses for it (especially video and low light). No better value for the money. Also, it doubles as a great walking stick in rough areas.
