The DCT-9 Cable Tester from Whirlwind provides a fast and accurate way to automatically test many varieties of cables. The digital test program analyzes cables for correct wiring and displays any faults on the numeric display. A built in test tone oscillator generates 440 Hz and 1 kHz tones for basic signal path tracing.
The DCT-9 Cable Tester works with the following cables: XLR, RCA phono, RJ-45, 1/4" TS, 1/4" TRS, BNC, TT Patch, NL4, and 1/8" TRS.

Comments about Whirlwind DCT-9 Cable Tester:
We are a pro audio company and this tester has proven to be one of the best purchases of the year that we have made. It is easy to use and compared to the other testers on the market, they have included every cable a pro A/V guy is looking for. We now take our tester to every gig and it has already saved us money on speaker repair because we found out ahead of time that we had a cable with crossed wires.
The only let down is that the LCD display is not very bright. When we are working in a club or at night it is fine, but outdoors, in the day light, it is kind of hard to see.
Even with that in mind, I would still recommend this tester to anyone in the Audio or Video field.

Comments about Whirlwind DCT-9 Cable Tester:
I'm a minister of music in a church and this cable tester covers the entire range of cable types we use for our music programs. In addition to testing cables, it generates a test tone. I particularly like that it indicates which lead in a cable is faulty, however less experienced sound technicians might find this harder to use: since it tests each lead in turn and only stops either when it detects a fault or finishes the last lead, one must know how many leads are in the cable in question. A typical xlr cable, for instance, with 3 leads would be faulty if the cable tester stopped on 1, 2, or 3 in the LED display, but it would be fine if it stopped on 4 (since there are only 3 leads in the cable). It takes a bit of getting used to, but I find it gives more information about the cable in question once you do.

Comments about Whirlwind DCT-9 Cable Tester:
Working in video makes it tough when it comes to finding a good cable tester. This Whirlwind is great because it tests CAT5, BNC and XLR on top of plenty of other types of cables. Its tone generator also helps out a bunch when it's time to diagnose problems. The display even shows you which pin in the cable is giving you the problem. I love it!! The only thing I don't like is the fact that it's a little large compared to other testers, but it's worth it for what it does.

I use it to check my audio and video lines before placing them in the event. I can detect no working wires and replace them. It saves you time and double work.
