Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black)
The Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs follows in the footsteps of the highly popular and award winning 190X series, but has now been further improved with the use of carbon fiber tubing for its legs. Thanks to innovative production techniques - which allow for high quality 100% carbon tube structures - the 190CX guarantees a higher load capacity and an increased height with a lighter overall weight (-20%) thanks to a completely new design, which allowed to lighten the components.
The 190CXPRO3 is a 3-leg section tripod, with a center column design that allows it to be used in either vertical or horizontal position. By extending the column to its highest vertical position, the column can be swung over to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself.
The 190CXPRO3 also features several other improvements, such as an improved leg locking system, redesigned angle adjustment levers, and a leveling bubble that is incorporated into the head plate.

Used to own the aluminium 190 from BM and was absolutely stunned by it's stability, but was slightly annoyed by the locking mechanism of the legs and the weight was just a little too much for an all day trek (urban or in nature).
So after playing with other tripods as well (Gitzo namely), I concluded that THIS is my best option. And yes it is, albeit the Gitzo is considered to be the better sister brand, I feel these legs outperform anything below 700$, by a great margin. I absolutely love these legs, most notably for their : lightweight character, very good stability and ease of setting it up,also they have this new feature where you can flip the camera 90 degrees. The gear that i put on is a 40D with a 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM (sometimes extender as well),plus battery grip, a UV and a polarizer ... overall pretty heavy equipment and the tripod legs excel in keeping everything steady. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this pair of legs. On a sidenote i also played with the basalt/lava legs ... and was not pleased with neither stability nor weight as CF outperforms the upper mentioned by far in both categories.

I use this tripod for landscape, wildlife and macro photography. I read all theese great reviews on b&h and thought it would be a great purchase. Sadly it has not been good enough. It is not very solid (the rubber things at the bottom of the legs fell of after using the tripod on an uneaven surface), its not very stable - I was photographing the landscape in the Norwegian mountains and I needed to place my tripod in the shallow water (did not eaven reach my knees). I took my hans of the tripod for a few seconds and the whole ting fell into the water. That is NOT good enough! there was no current, no wind, no waves, nothing... I almost ruined camera gear worth over $2300. (this is how solid the canon 7D is! It was under the water for about a second and after 3 days of drying it worked perfecty, probably because the water was very clean) Also the legs tend to get loose very often and needs to be tightened. Something inside one of the legs must have broken when I used it in "macro mode" because now I cant push one of the legs all the way in. The only good thing about this tripod is the weight. Its very light and easy to carry around. I must say I regret buying this tripod. I was hoping for something of good quality, but this is far from good enough.

flick lock legs enable quick setup, lightweight and sturdy, center column conversion allows getting closer to foreground/macro 2-3 inches.Overall- great value compared to more time consuming barrel adjustment legs and the extra pound over some models more than makes up for itself in the time and pleasure of focusing on the composition.

I have now had the opportunity to utilize the tripod in the field. With a Canon 7D, 70mm to 300mm lens, carrying the tripod and backpack , and hanging on to my 75lb hunting dog I found no reason to rate this anything short of a 5.
The actual set up and breakdown on location was a non-issue due to the ease of use. This stable platform is light but extremely sturdy. The versatility of the legs made for ease of use in uneven and rocky terrain.

I've been a fan of Manfrotto's tripods for years - I have four of them! Plus light stands, booms, clamps, and more!
Last year, I bought the Manfrotto 190CX3 from B&H, which is almost identical to this model featured above, except the center column does NOT slide sideways. I took it with me on a 32 day trip to Iceland - and it was a real trouper - very rugged and durable, absolutely no problems.
Fast forward to February 2012. My van was broken into, and my beloved Manfrotto, along with some other gear was stolen! Grrrrrrr!
I decided to upgrade and order the 190CXPRO3, which arrived in good order in April. It's a touch lighter than the 190CX3, as the center column is made of carbon fibre too, unlike my former model. Very rugged and sturdy, even with my Nikon D700 and 80-200 f2.8 AFS lens mounted.
The problem is, for really LOW macro photography work of flowers or fungi, you have no choice but to slide the center column sideways, as the shaft is quite long. Now your ball head (in my case an Acratech GV2 from B&H) has lost a lot of its maneuverability, and sits at an awkward position. I also had some conflict with the knobs of my ballhead when it was close to the center of the tripod.
After testing it in my living room for a day, I reluctantly returned it - the good folks at B&H took it back. I have since re-ordered and received the 190CX3.
In summary - it's a tough and durable tripod, however for my type of photography, the sliding center column is not beneficial for low macro work, hence the 4 stars.

I am a hobbyist. This is my second tripod. First was an inexpensive tripod (under $65). The 190cxpro3 was ordered Saturday evening and arrived on Wednesday morning (1 day ahead of schedule). B & H always treats me right when ordering from them. I trust them to be prompt with the orders. I will have to update this review after I get the 190 out in the wilds for a test run but my first impressions are nothing short of 5's. I also bought the 804RC2 head. I probably will go to a different head once my accountant (spouse) is looking the other way. My Canon 7D with a 70 to 300mm lens seems to workout just fine so far.

Just started using this. I love the with although I made the mistake of buying a Manfrotto ball trigger grip which doubled the weight.

The legs are excellent. Very versatile, but no fuss - they performed great in the field. I managed to use all configurations on a single hike; they all worked very well and were all indispensable. I've heard some complain about height, but I'm 6'4" and never felt it needed more height. And the weight - or lack of it - made it very easy to carry.

I borrowed this tripod first from a friend and I was sold so I bought it right away. The legs are very easy to expand and work smoothly. It's not too heavy and with the addition of a pistol grip it's ideal. There are so many more functions this tripod enables me to do than my old tripod...like the additional angles of spread and raising the column for extra height. I'm very happy with this tripod and would recommend it to anyone.

I like this tripod. It's light weight and small enough to take with me to places I usually wouldn't. I think that's the most important thing about a tripod. There's no point in having one, if it's not used.
