The compact Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM Zoom Lens is a high zoom ratio lens with SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass, a molded glass aspherical lens and two hybrid aspherical lenses provide correction for aberrations. It is designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras and incorporates Sigma's OS (Optical Stabilizer) to compensate for camera shake. OS offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower than lenses without OS. The super multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 13.8" at all focal lengths, and has maximum magnification of 1:3.8, making it ideal for close-up photography. This lens incorporates a HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), which ensures a quiet and high-speed autofocus. It is the ideal lens for several type of photography such as wide-angle, telephoto and close-up.
Note! Vignetting will occur if the lens is used with 35mm SLR cameras or digital cameras with image sensors larger than APS-C size.

Comments about Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM Zoom Lens:
I was looking for an improved general purpose lens over my Sony "kit" 18-200mm lens which seems to be getting loose with age. I was willing to sacrifice some on the long side for improved performance. I have other fixed telephoto lenses that are faster.
I have used this lens on a few outings and so far am very pleased with its performance. Focusing is very smooth and quiet. The lens seems solid and well built. It can focus close. It works with both of my Sony DSLR cameras (A580 and A700). I currently have no issues with the lens. It is all I expected. I need more time with the lens for a final judgement but the dreary gray fall in Minnesota is limiting my photo opportunities.
I probably would have paid more for an equivalent lens that was faster. I didn't find any options from any manufacturer that maintained the same zoom range.
