Comments about Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM Zoom Lens:

I bought the lens to photograph moth and beetle specimens in my collection. The lens meets my requirements and is bright and focuses close enough to take pictures of insects in the 20 to 125 mm range. I was using two different lens before. The quality of the pictures is exceptional.

Comments about Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM Zoom Lens:

While I have a good collection faster zooms, I always wanted to have a walk around lens that I don't need to swap lens. I don't mind the slower aperture because I can compensate with ISO, so easy to shoot K-5 at 3200.

I looked up the 18-125 performance and it compares favorably against any 18-200. SO I gave it a try. I was not disappointed. It is more than acceptable for casual situations, but don't expect to throw the background out of focus. At about 1/4 the price of the 17-50 & 50-135 combined, I cannot ask for more. The HSM is very sweet. Focus is fast and accurate. Since I shoot raw exclusively, lens distortions are mostly corrected (with LR 3) to my satisfaction.

Construction is actually very good. I also have a Sigma 70-300 which is exceptional for the price. But the 70-300 has worse construction. However, the 18-125 is not in the same league as the Sigma 100-300 or the Pentax 50-135.

The main con is the turn direction of the zoom ring. It is the reverse of every zoom I have.

Comments about Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM Zoom Lens:

I am a weekend warrior with a camera. I take shots of anything in front of my lens while trying to learn how to use my camera. One lens on a car trip is enough as long as it does what this one does. I can take close ups and telephoto shots all with one lens. It reacts quickly and quietly. I love this lens it gives me one less thing to worry about. Besides with lens on I can fit my cute purple pentax into my cute yellow JJill bag and have everything with me.
