I just purchased a blu-ray player and needed an HD receiver to take advantage of the full capabilities. The multiple HDMI inputs are key! This receiver was easy to set up, has a self-tuning function ensure all speakers are connected correctly, and extremely affordable. So far I have found nothing wrong with it and would enthusiastically recommend it. Since I am not a sound expert there maybe functions on this model I am missing that I do not even know about. But if you are a regular person that wants great surround sound for HD movies and HDTV, this is a great option.

The sound is great in 5.1 (it can produce 7.1 but I need two more speakers).
Get a good sub woofer as this unit can really drive it. I watched 'Top Gun' and it shook the house. It truly is a good unit with good quality. I would have given it 5 stars except for the instruction manual. The writers oddly assume everyone is an electronics engineer. However, with the auto calibration and the preset movie sounds feature, it was easy to enjoy watching a movie in surround sound the first time out. I highly recommend this unit for anyone wanting to enter the Surround Sound arena. Besides this unit, you will need 5 speakers and a woofer. Good listening!

I have only had it for a few weeks but the sound quality is clear with no distortions I can detect. If you are on a tight budget but want the latest audio features, this receiver cannot be beat. You cannot find an A/V receiver with this feature set at this price point. Buy it!

My other Sony receiver went and I only needed a replacement for the home theater system that we had. Mostly other places wanted to sell me a complete home theater package but I didn't need the whole package. The Sony receiver I purchased is fine and it only took me about 10 minutes to take all the wires from my old set and plug them it the new set and it sounds great. Well worth the price for the receiver
