I actually bought this badboy to use as an external monitor for my HD filming, and as such it works great! Costing hundreds less than the closest competitor in that arena, and offering features that they simply don't. Such as...a DVD player built right in! It really is the coolest little device. It has long battery life with the rechargeable battery that comes with it, or you can plug it in at home OR in the car, all with the standard accessories. The picture quality is great, I mean, it IS a Sony. Sound quality is, using the built in speakers, tinny and poor quality, but you can't really fit a powerhouse sound system in this small of a package. But the 2 headphone jacks nicely make up for this little negative. The swivel screen is great, too. It's solid construction doesn't make you feel like you are going to break it, and the nav controls are very easy to use, especially if you are used to Sony gear. It also doesn't skip, at least not so far, and I have really bounced it around a few times, but it just keeps playing smoothly. All-in-all a great deal for the price.

I ordered this unit after comparing it to others. I liked the Panasonic for its up to 12 hr battery life but went with the Sony because of its higher resolution screen and adequate (6hrs) battery life. On our first trip, the screen quit. Sound still played but no picture. This became intermittent. I sent it back today and hopefully the next will perform better. When it did work, the picture was excellent. I didn't have the chance to judge battery life. Controls seemed easy to use. Don't necessarily like the swivel screen...could just be another point of failure (keep it simple). I'm not trashing the unit...maybe I just got one with early mortality. A cheaper no-name may have got us through the 9hr flight with a 4-year old with less trouble... Additionally, the picture is a bit deceptive. The thickness of the lower half seems like it does not have the flat battery pack installed, which adds another 1/4 to 3/8-inch overall.

I bought this for my mom's use in the hospital. The picture quality is very good (I compared several in this price range and this model was by far the best), the sound is excellent from the headphones and good from the speakers, and the battery lasts quite well, around 4 hours. The controls are a little hard for someone with poor vision, but I dotted each with some nail polish (red for stop, green for play, white for pause) and my technophobic mother really enjoys this. The two headphone jacks were nice as well, since we could watch dvds together. I thinks it's an excellent value for the money.

I use this item as an enlarged LCD monitor, hooked-up to my Nikon D700. Clients can see images more readily, thereby signing off on images, or requiring more attempts. Also, provides entertainment during the down time.

Bought this Portable DVD for my kids to take on a trip and it was a hit. Worked great. Picture was bright and clear. You can listen to the sound without headphones with no problem or just use headphones. The swivel screen was useful for different positions in the car. The battery charge lasted easily through two movies. Overall, great product and what you would expect from SONY.

I use this DVD player when I work out in the gym, so i wanted a durable model. This player is very simple to you and offers very good picture and sound. The swivel head is the greatest thing allows it to be viewed note pad style. I usually get about 4-5 hours of battery life which is still better than most other models. the only complaint is i wish it had a USB port or a memory slot.

I had one problem in that the audio in didn't work but the picture is excellent and I hooked it up to one of those "free" didital to analogue converter boxes and the TV picture is great. The unit plus the converter take little power and thus can be hooked up to provide long term TV service when the power goes out.

Only putting a few weight with my hand on the disc cover reduces annoying windy noise from the disc spinning. Even the light clicking doesn't bother. Since I didn't test other portable DVD this shouldn't be the worse. It is acceptable. But I think it could be more satisfying. An alarm clock I've bought from Sony had that same windy spin issue. I'm sure they could bring some more bucks like Plextor or Pioneer on another version with more silent spinning. Everything else is number one for me. Picture, Sound, and easy of use A+

We travel a lot as a family, and this works great for the kids. I wish I had bought two though, since they argue about sharing. The color and clarity is just short of blu-ray quality. I would do it again.

I used this dvd player on a recent bus trip, and it worked without any problems or issues. Picture quality was real good. Sound was good as well. This dvd player lived up to the reviews I found on the internet, and I think a little better than was found. I would buy it again with no question.

Very straightforward and easy to operate, well engineered and sturdy. Wouldn't recommend for kids under 5-6. It probably would not "weather" numerous drops, etc. but not at all fragile. No Blue-Ray, who cares! Plays homemade DVD/CD's (made for archival purposes only - ha ha) Plenty of volume on headphones, decent speakers used occassionaly.

I bought one for my father in-law for his B-day. After I saw the picture quality and how easy it
was to use, I bought one for my 9 year old daughter for her B-day. It is easy for her to use in her room or on a long trip in the car.
