The Edirol V-4 has been the standard mixer for VJs all around the world for a while. The V8 takes everything good about the V4 and improves it. Double the inputs, VGA support and some new effects make this the one indispensable tool for any serious live VJ. It's built like a tank, has BNC instead of RCA connections and has the inputs moved to the back instead of the top. They also changed a couple other controls from knobs to faders that make it more user friendly.

This unit is a cheap switcher for the DJ in a club situation. It has no light indicators to tell you which channel you are own, no easy way to vary your transitions on the fly, NO internal character generator or buffer memory to hold graphics. I inherited it at the church that I now am the video director, and I will be replacing it as SOON as I get a budget to.

I bought the V8 and had to set it up for a live shoot an hour after I opened the box. Without reading any instructions, I plugged in my cables, powered it up and was recording in no time. Very easy to use and I really like the pc input, no need for a scaler. I have always been a Panasonic devotee, until now. Very nice switcher!

Comments about Edirol / Roland V-8 Eight Channel Live Video Effects Switcher:
We were looking for a mixer that would support camera and computer inputs for live streaming applications. The V8 seems to be a good fit especially for the price. Everything else out there: Edirol LVS-800, Tricaster etc. was overkill for what we needed.
My only complaint (for the moment) is the location of the power switch. It's difficult to get at once cables are attached.

Comments about Edirol / Roland V-8 Eight Channel Live Video Effects Switcher:
This is now the nerve center of my video set up. I have 3 cameras, 2 document cams, and a laptop running through it. It's straight forward and easy to use. My only grudge is that it is the first thing that I have bought that has BNC connectors so I had to stock up on adapters and new cables.

I am a performing VJ and a Television Producer of some very abstract visual and character stylingz. I got the V8 to supplement my V4, for use in experimental Camera feed design and extreme color.
The chromakey on this unit is fantastik, the new wipes are awesome, and the new effects, like the flip effect (very important), feedback (good for luminocity boosting for low end hardware feedback), and the compositing modes. All awesome!
One of the best new features is the Pass through... All 8 inputs (including the super excellent PC input) have their own output. This is extremely handy with countless uses.
Its tough, Durable and black! Its my baby, and I love it

This is an excellent step up from the V-4 mixer. It offers a greater number of input - and more types - giving greater flexibilty.

Comments about Edirol / Roland V-8 Eight Channel Live Video Effects Switcher:
Since I have purchased the V8 I have used it six times for 3 camera, 2 DVD, and computer live events. I really like the built in scan converter but, would rather not have to switch from computer 1 to computer 2 and not have the use of effects or transitions. It performed well with chroma key and PIP...it beats my Panasonic WJMX-50, hands down, with over 500 lines of resolution output.
