This is my second PowerShot camera (my first was an A75 which I had for five years but dropped one too many times). I liked my first so much that there was no question I was going to buy another PowerShot -- it was just a matter of picking which one, which was a dizzying process but I figured I couldn't go too wrong.
The SD770 IS is a great value for an avid but very amateur photographer like me. I use it mainly to take photos of my young children. I tend to use the "kids & pets" feature because my subjects are constantly in motion. And with the SD770, I have discovered the "continuous" mode which I am learning is great for capturing elusive shots of kids constantly in motion -- it just keeps taking photos until I release the button. I also find the feature that shows a close up of faces for reviewing shots to help me make sure a shot was in focus and no one looks weird (except in the ways they always do!). There is a feature for "locking" on faces to make sure the right thing is in focus, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use that yet! But I expect I will regularly use that feature, too.
The only negative that I have found to date is that it is so small I have a hard time holding on to it easily. I haven't figured out how to hold it comfortably for shooting.

This is a great, compact camera with great features and style. The camera looks great and is very easy to use. Two buttons are all you really need to use for basic operation - zoom and click. Extremely sharp, great focus and powerful zoom make for a great camera. The video feature is great as well, and transferring images is very simple and easy via USB cable.

Handy camera to carry around in my purse or even in my pocket at all times. Good for point and shoot situations. My main camera is a BIG DSLR (canon 20D)which isn't practical to carry everywhere. This canon elph gives me the opportunity to capture pictures I would've missed because I didn't want to haul my large camera. Lag time between pictures is obviously much slower than I'm use to with my DSLR. Other than that I'm very impressed with the quality of the images even in dark lighting situations.

Logical control layout. Good for video as well. Focusing works well as does auto - ISO feature.
Would prefer that it could shoot RAW file format images.

This is a wonderful little camera whether you are an experienced photographer or just starting out. And when I say "little" I am referring strictly to its size. However, its capabilities are huge. Photography has been a hobby of mine for over 50 years and today I am shooting a large Canon SLR as my main digital still camera - which I love. But I wanted a much smaller camera for day-to-day use so I chose the SD770 to stay with the familiar Canon interface. I am amazed at the range of features it contains! While not quite as broad as the SLR it compares very favorably with the larger camera in most respects. It covers the greater majority of the shooting situations most of us want and need. At the same time it is simple enough for a beginner to master with only a little study. Needless to say, at 10.1 megapixels you will get great quality photos and enlargements.

Purchased the SD770 as a back-up for my other Canon point & shoot prior to a two week Alaska trip. This camera was super easy to set up and operate. The digital zoom worked great! Very easy to operate (even one handed while sitting in a kayak in Glacer Bay). I highly recommend this compact camera. I think all my friends on the trip will be seriously consider buying one. Easy to operate, great pictures--can't miss!

Used on scuba diving vacation above but mostly under water.
Great underwater pictures. I used flash on for all underwater pics and lag time was a lot less than my old Canon.
It fits great in my purse for sightseeing on land.

This camera is very user-friendly and takes excellent photos! Pictures come out crisp and clear, and the time in between shots is very minimal. I purchased this camera to take pictures of my baby, and I can't wait to use it, because after experimenting with the features and taking other pictures, I have no doubt I will be able to capture some priceless moments. Also, the PC hookup and picture download is fast and easy--great for sending pics to all those family members and friends!
