I upgraded from a Nikon LS1000, I was not getting the consistency,DPI that I needed and it was a SCSI interface. Whats great: The dust removal works very well, it is consistent, the calibration works well, the price was reasonable. Whats not: It is slow when you do the dust removal and multiple scans of the same slide, Software crashed regularly out of the box with Photoshop CS4 needed a software update. Mounting slides in the holder is a pain,if you have fragile slide mounts you may need to remount the slide. I would for sure pay the extra money and get the Silverfast AI Studio over the SE version. Overall I would buy it again if I had to do it all over again.

I have been using film a lot for my personal shooting and scanned my negatives and slides with scanners from Nikon and Epson. Last year I decided to purchase this plustek scanner since my Nikon broke down.
The scanner's resolution is good, but certainly not as high as 7200 dpi. I think it's around 3200 dpi.
The scanner has a good color response, bundled software is also good.
Density range is narrow that scanning slides becomes a problem, multiple exposure mitigates the problem to some extend.
Dust removal barely works that one has to do it in Photoshop. Also it makes scanning unbearably slow.
All the limitations are tolerable except the frustrations when dealing with tech support. I found they didn't bother to understand customer's problem. They sent me emails copied from their standard answers and assumed I didn't know a thing about scanning or Photoshop. They asked me to read manual carefully saying it was "good for customers with no experience"... But luckily I got a work around method from the support team of Silverfast.
Overall I would recommend this product for personal use due to its low price and good software. Anyway the choices of film scanners is rather limited now a days.

Comments about Plustek Technology Inc. OpticFilm 7500i AI Film Scanner:
I've used this model for over 9 months on a variety of slides and negatives. The scanned images. When I migrated to W7, the existing software for an XP environment was intelligent enough to recognize the change, and advised the new software would need to be installed. Minimal hotfixes or updates. Electronic tutorials are easy to learn

Bundled Silverfast AI studio software installation instructions are confusing and incorrect. Tech support didn't understand the problem and I solved it by accident. Scanner worked fine with the software supplied by Plusteck. If you can serialize AI Silverfast, it gives you more options and better editing prior to scan. Get the less expensive model which has less expensive Silverfast software.

Straight out of the box,we were up and running in no time at all. The price made it a no brainer for this professional photography company. Small, takes up no room at all. Not as fast as I would like but nor is my Big Mac 5 with everything in it or my Scion.

Comments about Plustek Technology Inc. OpticFilm 7500i AI Film Scanner:
I have slides taken in 1958, 1960, 1976, 1990 and many years in between. The slides were not well cared for and suffered from heat damage from being stored in a garage. I have no projector for them and still have the memories. Therefore, I got the QptiCilm 7500i AI Scanner and had some teanagers convert about 2,000 slides to digital images. Using the software I also acquired we were able to restore most of the slides to a state where they can be viewed and perhaps worked on in Photoshop.
The scanner is great. It is small enough to move around. The software made installation on the computer a snap and the physical slide holders work very well.
I expected that the product would work, but was not sure about how easy it would be. I mastered the system in about 15 minutes and tought the teenagers in about 10 minutes.
