Comments about Macally PHR-100SUA eSATA, FireWire-400, and USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drive:
I had an old hardrive that I thought (because of lack of knowledge) was no longer any good. It was a Western Digital Book. After about a year and a half, it stopped working. I'm not sure why I kept it, but one day I decided to take it apart and try it in a different external enclosure. Glad I did because it still worked. It must have been the circuitry in the WD drive and not the HD itself.
This drive is great, solid build and reliable. Popped the drive in, closed it up and it just works.

Comments about Macally PHR-100SUA eSATA, FireWire-400, and USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drive:
I've been using Macally external enclosures for many years for both my 3.5" and 2.5" drives. There's no question they do the job, but I have to say that the failure rate of the Firewire models has been high.
Roughly a third of the Macally's I've owned that have been configured for either Firewire alone or Firewire with USB have failed in the Firewire department. The models that were Firewire alone were simply thrown away (thank heaven they're not expensive!). The models that were both Firewire and USB are now operating in USB mode.
A 33% failure rate of an external enclosure circuit board is something to be concerned about. So I strongly urge buyers of ANY Macally external enclosure products to get a model that has BOTH Firewire and USB, even if the intention is to use it right now as a Firewire drive.
Except for the high Firewire failure rate, these are very good products both operationally and cosmetically. Indeed, if it weren't the failures, I certainly would have rated the Macally as a 5.

Comments about Macally PHR-100SUA eSATA, FireWire-400, and USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drive:
Construction is sturdy: solid aluminum and steel. The price, unbeatable!
Installation was almost smooth: the eSATA cable is slightly longer than needed. I had to invert its direction to avoid the potential of breaking it. I advise to plug the 90 degrees end to the circuit board, coil the cable, and plug the straight end to the HD.
USB2 and FireWire 400 cables included, cool!

a little big and the body doesn't sit perfectly in the stand but... it was very easy to install a drive and it's great to have so many possible inputs. actually has 2 firewire 400 jacks so can be used with additional drives or a deck.

This external hard drive is really easy to use. It was one of the few with a firewire connection that didn't cost over $50.

I bought this to temporarily house my new hard drive while I was performing a clone. My only gripe is that for some reason the firewire did not respond and had to use the usb instead, but other then that worked very well, and has a nice light on it.

The hard drive installed quickly and easily in less than 10 minutes and my Power Mac G5 recognized it right away.
This kit also includes a USB cable and a firewire cable - all you need is a hard drive.
