I keep many 1.5TB backup drives. Had been using a Blacx dual-SATA adapter and bare hard drives but the Blacx has terminal hardware issues on OS 10.6 that cause data loss. There are many other choices out there, but the Macally box has a lot of aluminum for cooling, an issue I have as I am 7000 ft above sea level and the air is 30% thinner. Looks beautiful, and performs flawlessly with a dual boot Macbook Pro with OS 10.6 and Windows 7 Pro. I bought 5 of these after testing one for 4 months. May buy more.

Mounting the disk on my MacPro via USB usually doesn't work (I haven't tested the esata yet) If it does mount it works just fine, but reconnecting after shutdowns, restarts, and disk ejects is VERY troublesome.
I haven't been able to pin point the problem, nor found a reliable and consistant method to successfully mount this enclosure. I've tried...
-- turn on drive, then connect USB
-- connect first, then turn on drive
-- connecting to Mac before the computer is on
-- connect using different USB ports
...and every conceivable combination of the above.
After powering up, I'll plug it into the Mac. Sometimes the blue power button continually flash and drive doesn't show up. Other times it CUTS POWER WITHOUT SPINNING DOWN HDD! This abrupt shutdown may be damaging my new drive.
Inside there is a 2TB Seagate Barracuda Green (ST2000DL003) formatted to ExFAT so I can use on both windows and mac. Other formats have proven unsuccessful. I use this as a cross platform project transfer and manual backup.
CONCLUSION:
I wouldn't recommend this to another Mac user. I couldn't get this to stand vertically. The screws on the leg supports are impossible to screw in, and the threads got stripped when I tried.

Comments about Macally G-S350SU eSATA and USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drive:
I picked up this enclosure to use a few extra 3.5" SATA drives I have as a portable external HDD backup when I travel for work.
The build feels very sturdy and looks professional when with clients. I feel confident it will protect the drive while traveling.
Installing the drive in the enclosure is simple and self-explanatory. Takes about 2 min with a screw driver.
The drive initialized and was recognized by both PC and Mac and the transfer speed was decent with USB 2 and fast with the eSATA connection.
For the price point, this can't be beat for converting naked 3.5" HDD's into robust external drives. I'm going to pick up a couple more.
This will be great to deliver large jobs (still/video) directly to clients.

This enclosure is a great way to give your spare hard drives a second life.
Sleek design that match a miniature Mac Pro. It will be more awesome with a white LED instead of the blue, but that is just my own perception.
Silent and very easy to install.
I love it.

Although it's designed to compliment a Mac Pro tower, its exterior surface is more of a rough texture rather than a Mac's satin smooth surface. The installation is simple and straight forward. The main reason I chose this particular enclosure is for the front power button; if you're only going to access the drive occasionally, having the power button in the front makes turning it on and off a breeze, plus the button lights up when it's on, and flashes during data access.

Comments about Macally G-S350SU eSATA and USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drive:
There are tons of good reviews on this enclosure online. This is my second Macally G-S350U enclosure so I knew what to expect. The thing that makes this enclosure so likeable is that it looks great plus it works. The drive (WD) is quickly recognized via eSata once you tell disk management to rescan disks which is not true for some other enclosures. I had to return a different eSata enclosure bought elsewhere because it would ONLY recognize drives after rebooting which is annoying (unless you intend to always leave it powered up) I learned my lesson, stick with what you know works.

Installing my old hard drive took a few second, the whole thing screwed together easily, and looks great next to my iMac. The only criticism I have is that the cable that came with the casing is on the short side.

Comments about Macally G-S350SU eSATA and USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drive:
this is your most basic e-sata enclosure, easy to install the disc, my second purchase of these enclosures, no problems so far. fast e-sata connection good for editing video. usb2 included for portability and comparatively slow universal connection. no fans so no noise but for this reason I don't recommend for warm to hot environments or stacking on top of each other- again because of eventual build up of heat with one drive in direct contact with the next. free standing is fine.

We upgraded the hard drives in our Drobo from one terrabyte to two. What to do with the one terrabyte? Bought this little rig, put in the harddrive and viola! a new 1TB external hard drive. Cool

Comments about Macally G-S350SU eSATA and USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drive:
I needed an enclosure to enable me to extract data from a failed hard drive. Worked perfectly. Even came with the drive fixing screws which was a bonus. Was left on for a long period of time and did not get over hot. Was a little fiddly to set up initially because tray will slide in either way but only one way will seat properly so note which way it comes out when you fit the drive.

I bought two of these for additional storage for my photography assignments. the price and styling was what got me to buy them. I put an SATA drive in one in under 5 min., and most of that time was spent looking for a small enough phillips head screwdriver. It's a great, low cost solution for extra storage on a budget.

Comments about Macally G-S350SU eSATA and USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drive:
I purchased this enclosure because of the good deal. While it worked as advertised at first, about a month later the drive I installed could not be recognized by the computer regardless of the USB or eSATA connection (the drive has worked flawlessly for a couple years). I installed the drive internally into two different computers with the same results. Was it this enclosure? Can't say for certain but I can't trust it with any more data.

This product is very well constructed. Installing the hard drive couldn't have been easier. I'm using a 1.5 T Samsung in it for use with Time Machine next to my Dual 2Ghz G5, which it looks just like. It's being used with a LaCie eSATA PCI card that I purchased at the same time. The price on both was too good to pass up.
