I bought this enclosure because I thought there was a problem with the Western Digital one I had. All I can really say is that you get what you pay for. It's a decent enclosure but I wouldn't trust it for long-term use. If you have an old drive, though, and you just want to get the data off of it, or you just want to have an enclosure for everyday, stay-on-the-table use, I'd recommend this. It's dual (USB/eSATA) interfaces are nice, although it would be even nicer if it actually came with an eSATA cable... also, the on/off switch puts it a bit above other enclosures I've had.

My home computer crashed and was unable to be fixed without costing more than it was worth. To put it in plainer terms it was totaled haha. I was able to pull the hard drive out and plug right into the product. My files were saved and I was grateful! I work in media however I am nowhere close to a computer expert. In fact my area of expertise is writing for the media, so as you can probably guess I am just above the computer literacy line. In other words it was very easy to understand the directions provided and even easier to hook up to your previously internal hard drive.
Easy to install and easy to use!

So this encloser is plastic and is replacing an aluminum encloser with a fan that failed on me after 4 years. The Macally drive encloser is very designy looking and when everything is put together it feels very stable.
Cons:
The power light never turns off. This drive is suppose to have the new power standards but the blue bright light never turns off when my computer does. I have another external hard drive and the light doesn't stay on when the drive is off or not writing. Its annoying... and blue led lights up my room when I am trying to sleep. I ended up using tape to cover it.

Comments about Macally T-S350SU eSATA and USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drive:
Installing my 2TB WD Green drive in it was easy. I discovered that the drive needs to be turned on before I turn on my computer for eSATA or it will not show up (fault of my mother board settings I think).
After reading 1TB off this drive it became dangerously hot while sitting directly on my desk. I turned it off once it reached the max operating temp of 140F. There is no fan in this and little ventilation in the plastic housing. The things on the back are not vent holes, just decorative impressions. There are some small slits on the bottom of the enclosure but they may not be vary effective being less than 1mm wide and on the bottom. I fixed this by placing a fan under the drive. The fan reduced the temperature by 25 degrees under load.
It is a good price at the moment for a eSATA enclosure, though I would only recommend it for light use due to overheating.

I didn't expect anything extraordinary from this box. It does it's job. It's plastic, not aluminium and I'm not sure it has a fan in it. So it does get a little hot after couple of hour work. But this is OK.When you need to turn it off, it take a bit long. You have to keep the front button depressed for about 5 seconds or so.

i had an extra drive that i needed an enclosure for. this enclosure does the job and its very cheap. that fact that it is only USB didnt bother me because i will only use it for temporary back ups etc. it is not well made, everything is plastic and looks cheap but what do you expect for this price?

[...] I could not figure out why the drive was spinning in the box, but the computer would not recognize it.[...]I finally figured out there was a piece of plastic wedged in my hard drive connector that wasn't letting it fully connect. Took it out and it works perfectly!
