I've used the Pop-up Shade when I first bought the Canon 1D Mark III. It made possible to see the viewer in bright sunlight, which is a plus. It also protected the camera and that critical to me.

The pop-up works as advertised but i find it very uncomfortable to use as the distance from the viewfinder eye-piece to the LCD display has been reduced. Now, i would have to further press my cheeks to the LCD (now covered by the pop-up) to look into the viewfinder.
And i also hate to use it due to the HUGE logo molded onto it (it gets printed onto your cheek if you have fleshy cheek). Its not shown in any of the B&H images.
