It is nice to have a place for a water bottle that is not next to all the expensive equipment. I always need a drink of water on long days. I wouldn't use this for a lens because it isn't as protected as the inside of the Tenba bag. But I like it and it is perfect for a drink.

Saw the bad reviews and ordered one anyway. There is a strap on back with two very heavy duty snaps, I use it to carry a water bottle on my Lowe Pro bag. Works great, I can't see how it could come off easy. The velcro wings are not useful, but for carrying a water bottle it's great.
My Lowe Pro bag is a stealth reporter.

Comments about Tenba Shootout Lens/Bottle Caddy (Black):
I have this on a Tenba Mini Messenger bag. Several times, I noticed that both of the snaps had opened. At that point it was just the flap holding it onto the bag. Fortunately, I didn't have anything more valuable than a water bottle in it...I'd hate to have a lens in there and have the whole thing crash to the ground.
The idea of the velcro to fold it into a smaller package is a nice idea, but really all it means is that it has two flaps hanging out with velcro on them, the hook side could attract lint. The flaps just add weight and bulk.
I also have a Lowepro bag and the Lowepro water bottle holder. That one is a much better design. I have to check if it will fit on the Tenba bag.

Not many options out there for this type of product. Overall quality is good, but the snaps to attach it are not very strong. I am only using this to carry a waterbottle. I would not use it to carry a lens due to the week snaps.

Comments about Tenba Shootout Lens/Bottle Caddy (Black):
I purchased this product so that I would be able to attach a water bottle to my Lowepro camera bag.
The back of the Bottle Caddy has a 1/2 inch wide "arm" that snaps securely with 2 snaps onto the back of the caddy. Because the attachment loop on my bag is much wider- about 2 inches- when there is a water bottle or lens in the caddy it flops around a lot.
There are 2 velcro wings on the sides of the caddy that allow for the caddy to be compressed and folded onto itself when not in use. This is great if you have a bag with a rain fly, or so I thought. The flaps are rather awkward and when they are not velcroed together, they often velcro to the caddy fabric, which snags the mesh.
Otherwise, the caddy is made of very nice, durable fabric. It is not at all water proof, however-and doesn't provide much shock protection or padding for delicate lenses. I think it is better as a bottle caddy.
Despite my inability to make it work with my particular bag, I really do like this product. I have considered just cutting off or sewing back the velcro earflaps, but I suppose if you did have a reason to want to fold it up, its not that bad.
Comments about Tenba Shootout Lens/Bottle Caddy (Black):
Product functions as you would wish, closes flat when not in use, holds lens and water bottles but the snaps unsnap easy so as to be on my mind to check once in awhile. Bottom line I have no confidence in the snaps.
