I use this backpack when I need to travel with a laptop and misc photo gear.
Whats great:
The camera body fits well within the top compartment. At first I was doubtful as it would make the backpack top heavy. And, I thought that it would "crush" or "sag" the bottom compartment area. But - the bottom compartment has a vertical separator that supports the weight of the camera body. Very nice... All separators are padded and movable - so if I decide to move my main gear to the bottom - no worries.
It doesn't have feet on the bottom but..
the bottom of the backpack is made with this polymer/plastic material that will resist any wet weather if you need to place it down on the ground. This is often overlooked by other backpack/bag manufacturers. This design consideration can only be found in "pro" level bags. So it was very nice to see it on this affordable mid-level backpack.
Not-so-great:
The shoulder straps are not as padded as I would like. If I loaded it up with the laptop and all my camera gear - the weight is felt on both shoulders.
I wouldnt call the backpack "weather resistant". Dont expect to run around in the rain and think your contents will stay dry. There are zippers and fold-over materials that should have been added to this backpack to be called "weather resistant". The material used to construct the backpack can repel sprinkles of rain. But the zipper areas will be the weakest link - as water may seep thru if there is enough rain....
What to watch out for:
Keep an eye on the Max laptop size:
15" x 10.5" x 1.5" and it's REAL snug. Thats the maximum size laptop I would attempt to use this backpack for. Any larger or thicker will compromise the weight distribution and comfort.
Overall - its a 8 out of 10 pack - very nice and best bang for the buck...!

I received the bag as part of the Nikon D300 kit I purchased. Overall it is a nice bag and I will need to get used to it. One thing that I don't care for is that you need to store the camera without the lens. Not practical if this is the only bag you wanted to take on a trip. I like being able to take my camera out and shoot right away. Also, the zippers can not be locked. So you can't put a small pad lock on if you wanted to further secure your equipment. Some pros are that the bag is comfortable and can be organized somewhat. Overall it is well constructed, but when traveling take another small camera case with you to hold your camera and lens (attached).

Comments about Nikon 5877 Impact and Weather Resistant Backpack (Dark Gray):
After looking at many DSLR back packs in my local shops. I decided to go online and see what else was available. Well after reading many other reviews of the Nikon back pack. I decided this would also be great for me. Being a motorcycle rider having a waste strap was a must. The waterproofing is excellent. But if you need to pack your camera in plastic due to excessive rain this pack still allows you to fit your camera in the compartment.

I ordered the Nikon back pack to hold my D80 and 4 of my lenses. Unfortunately, teh bag is too small to hold those stuff. The bag looks cute, but lack of space for big lens such as my 70-200 f2.8G lens and my 105mm Micro lens. If I put these 2 lens with me and my 50mm lens, I can't put my SB-800 inside the bag. The bag is definately not for one camera and 4 lenses, also, if you have a big lens like me, you have to take the lens off from camera in order to put the camera into bag. Overall, not a good bag and I returned it. Thanks!

good thing is it is very safe for your equipment
enough sponges
but basically it is not that big enough
especially if you have big lenz
it is not big enough to carry 70-200mm lenz with 24-70mm
if you have a telescope lenz, this bag is not big enough

I use this bag everywhere, from hiking, airports to general travel, it fits everything snug, i have a Nikon D3 in the top compartment and 4 lenses below, from a 300mm telephoto zoom lens to a small fish eye lens and theres room for a fifth lens and my laptop at the back, theres just enough space. The side pockets hold everything from a filter pouch, charger cables, lens cleaners, extra battries, ect...
Its great protection for my camera equipment.
very happy i have this back pack i dont know what i would have done with out it!

This is a handy bag that transports my Nikon D60 and 3 lenses, lens hoods, filters, monopod, etc without issue. The internal compartments do pretty well, but I wasn't overly impressed with the construction. All in all a good bag though.

most of which did not fit very well no matter how it was arranged
the bag was heavy but cheaply made,
the side pocket tore almos as soon as I used it.
the only good thing I can say is it is carry on size for traveling

Other reviewers claimed the bag was too small but I found it's the perfect size for my needs, my D300 with the 1.8 50mm lens fits in the top area, and the bottom area holds a 70-300mm, 10-20mm, 18-200mm, SB600, and MB-D10 plus extra batteries, plus the side pockets hold various filters, memory cards, cleaning supplies, and other small items. Again great bag for one camera and three or four lenses.

The pack is a little smaller than I had hoped for. You can certainly fit a bunch of lenses and stuff, but there aren't as many little pouches for things like batteries and stuff as I had hoped for. It does fit comfortably on my back though, and overall I like it a lot.

Comments about Nikon 5877 Impact and Weather Resistant Backpack (Dark Gray):
GREAT pack to carry camera and laptop. The pouches on the side with mesh pockets are very handy. Rugged/tough design with comfort pads in the right places.
The only disappointment was the size of the upper compartment, which would be perfect for a SLR with a 50mm lens max. Any larger lens must be removed and stowed in the bottom compartments. The velcro dividers are "OK," and really don't help with adjusting the size of the upper compartment for your camera with a bigger lens. Missing is a bottle/drink strap/holder.
I would've made the thing just a LITTLE bit larger, but I'm just being picky.
I traveled with a SLR w/ 18-200mm lens, all the cords, batteries and a small pocket camera plus a laptop with it's powercord and mouse in the side pockets. This pack worked-out VERY nicely! Worth the price.

The velcro pouches inside where lenses are kept are tricky. I think it is good for travel but not so easy if casually clicking and want to change lenses. Kind of clunky but good for airports.

i used this bag for travel all over the US recently, and found it tough, lightweight and hard wearing. An added bonus was the storage pocket for my laptop...A good all purpose camera bag, there is nothing negative about this that i can say...

I recently purchased my first dslr camera so I don't have a lot of gear yet but what I have (Nikon d40 kit with two lenses and a speedlight sb-600) fits nicely in the backpack along with my 15" laptop and accessories with a little more room to grow. I was toting a laptop bag plus a smaller backpack for the camera and it's nice to have all in one. It's a little heavy with all the gear but it's what I was looking for.

Comments about Nikon 5877 Impact and Weather Resistant Backpack (Dark Gray):
I use the pack primarily to tote around my Nikon D200 and three lenses-- including a 70-200. It manages to fit them all nicely. Although you have to detach any zooms from the body if you want to store the camera in the top compartment. so if you're looking for a quick draw with a zoom you're out of luck. You'll have to take time to open up both compartments and put together your set. It's nice to be able to tote your laptop along with your photo gear especially if you fly and want to get away with one carry-on bag. I haven't put it through the ringer yet, but thus far it's a good deal.

The bag is great, and feels very tough and strong. the problems I find are 2, in the first place, there is no "extra space" for wallet, phone, keys or even a sweater or cap u might wanna take with you. Also, the camera compartment is a bit small, so you can't pack it with a very long lens mounted on it. On the other hand, the lens compartment is great, and my 15" powerbook fits perfectly in the back. Also, the side pockets are great for cables, and extra batteries or memory cards.

absolutely love this bag. I purchased it as a secondary bag to take with my when going to the farmer's markets, zoo, lake, etc. It is very durable and also light weight, and contrary to what someone else says I can get my tripod buckled in on the left or right side of the bag. It is smaller than I anticipated, but that's just fine with me. It will fit five lenses (if 1 is on your camera) and my speedlight. I put my camera bracket and cord in the laptop area and it works just fine. I would recommend this to anyone and it is really cheap (compared to other bags like it).
