The Manfrotto 143A Magic Arm is a fully articulated arm with 90° pivotable and 360° rotatable ends, and an elbow that rotates 360°. The lever tightens and locks for precise positioning of a small light head or camera. The Magic Arm has 5/8" studs on ball joints at both ends with 3/8 and 1/4" female threads.
Although it is supplied with a camera platform, this item requires a Super Clamp or Base (available separately) for use. This item replaces old catalog #2930.

143A Magic Arm with Camera Bracket by Manfrotto is a great tool for serious professional vidoe/camera folks. This tool gives a lot of room for adjustment and for use in many angles. Once you adjust it even if you put your heavy camera screen you know it won't fall off.
NB= To use the Magic Arm make sure that you have a strong tripod that will be able to support it.

Could be better...
[...] it couldn't hold the weight of my 15" laptop and platform. I bought the extension arm instead.

Comments about Manfrotto 143A Magic Arm with Camera Bracket:
The company I work for develops high speed vision systems for manufacturing companies where the placement of the camera is essential to finding and eliminating mechanical error. The Magic Arm is the only thing we have found that makes this possible. Once you attach the arm you can move it anyway to get the best angle for the best shot. Not one of our systems is sold without one.

General studio uses,
holds everything that needs holding and stability.
Love the camera bracket and when used with a grip, it's useful on location when a tripod or monopod is inconvenient.

Comments about Manfrotto 143A Magic Arm with Camera Bracket:
I've had this piece of equipment for over twenty years and it's still going strong, it's so well made and tough that it's almost bomb proof. I may have used it with a camera a few times but generally it's been used in the studio on on location to hold props, lights, gels etc or anything that's heavy and needs precise placement for a shot. For me it once held an antique muzzle loader at the angle I required for a shot, just add one of those inexpensive hand spring clamps from a hardware store and you're set to go. Great for hobby work to hold anything for gluing etc. If I never shoot another image I would never ever sell or giveaway this great little tool!!

Comments about Manfrotto 143A Magic Arm with Camera Bracket:
I have been using the magic arm to hold small monitors to either a panasonic hdx 900 or my canon 7d. when shooting with the hdx900 I use a maffer clamp on one end and clamp the arm to the handle of the camera. With the 7d I usually clamp it to the tripod. It does a great job and does not drift. I especially like the lever device for fixing the movement.

I use these supports for a wide variety of functions - in some cases to hold flashes, but in other cases to hold portable monitors or heavy cameras. They are rock solid - no flexure - really great pieces of gear. You get what you pay for -
