Manfrotto 520BALL 75mm Half Ball
The Manfrotto 520BALL 75mm Half Ball is designed to facilitate quick leveling of a 75mm ball head with the 3283 tripod, and has a 3/8"-16 threaded screw. It can also be used with the Gitzo G-1422 75mm Bowl Interface Adapter to provide an economical and low profile levelling base with any of the Gitzo Series 3 "systematic" tripods(which feature an interchangeable top plate that accepts rapid or geared center columns as well as levelling bases).

The 520Ball adds versatility to any Manfrotto tirpod with a 75mm half bowl. I have a panoramic head attached to the 520Ball that enables me to quickly swap out the video head that came with my 535MPRO tripod. This enables one tripod to serve multiple purposes. This product is solid and appears to be well made. Only takes a couple of minutes to swap out heads. The length of the handle is ideal for quickly leveling the tripod head. The only negative is the movement of the half ball in the tripod bowl is not as smooth as I would like and not as smooth as the half ball on the Manfrotto 519 video head that came with the tripod.

Works great to convert a video bowl to a still camera, easy to install. To use as video tripod, just remove the handle. Good 'handle' to carry tripod. Nice to slightly loosen for leveling without adjusting legs.
May pick up a 2nd 520BALL to mount a ball head - for fast switch.

I shoot mainly video and recently purchased the Manfrotto 546B tripod, but already had a Manfrotto 501 head (which does not have a ball...it is flat). Since the 546B has a bowl for heads with balls, my 501 was basically useless. So instead of shelling out more money for a new compatible tripod, I got the 520Ball. This allowed me to use the 501 head on the new set of legs and it works absolutely great.
I have not used it yet in any long shoots, but it has performed exceptional during any tests so far.

Works great and is very well built. I just wish it would screw into the 100mm ball of my non-Manfrotto tripod. It's just sitting in the bowl now, which works but could be unstable. Other than that, it's great for quickly leveling my 501HDV head.

I got this Half Ball to mount my 701 head from Manfrotto onto a set of pretty shoddy Pearstone sticks. Luckily, the ball works even though the bowl is 50mm, and the ball is 75mm! Obviously, it reduces how much you can adjust the system, but that makes sense given that it's a sort of quick-fix solution.
