I needed support for situations where a tripod is just plain impractical and this monopod is going to fit the bill.

It looks a bit bulky, but it's lighter than it looks. With a simple ball head, it's going to be very useful.

I use the monopod when I can use one of my tripods. This monopod going to replaced one that has flip levers.

I bought this monopod to compliment a long telephoto lens for indoors (i.e. events/weddings) and outdoors (location shoots). Used with a Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head.

The top section (the one controlled by the trigger) would often get stuck and won't drop. I would manually have to give it a bump. But once extended, I can move the section up and down easily with one hand.

The 334B isn't very compact which makes packing and transporting less convenient than a traditional monopod (I can't strap it to my Crumpler courier bag without it sticking out 4 inches).

However I find the benefits outweigh these gripes. I've used it indoors and outdoors for shoots and I found it very quick (well suited for quick candid shots). It takes the load off your hands and wrists making it more comfortable at the end of the day.

Easy to extend. Well built. A little heavy, but durable. The release on the hand drip is very handy. I'm very happy with it.

Like that you can control the height with the release lever, and that the base can be stuck in mud or other undesirables without consequence.

Was recommended by Ben Willmore during a seminar in Seattle. I like the fact that the largest tube is at the bottom so you don't have to worry about sticking it into something that is wet and harmful to your monopod. I also like this version better than newer releases since it doesn't have the extra finger safety lock. Not a concern for me and the grip holds it solid enough. You should note that you do have to twist the bottom section down to lock, but the other sections are controlled with grip.

I use my monopod for all shots. its so easy to use and I loved hand holding the camera until I saw how easy this monopod is to use. Its steady when you aren't even thinking you need that extra stability.

Manfrotto has a real gem with this product. It's quick to open with just the grip "trigger" and quick to close the same way. There's nothing at the bottom to get clogged with mud or dirt or whatever. It's sturdy, open or closed, built well. I'm looking forward to letting it help me get "high shots" and really low shots to add some different perspective to my photography. Great for travel when a full-fledged tripod isn't practical.

I use this to support my D300s when shooting without a tripod. It is great, just enough to keep the camera from getting too much shake.

Use it with any number of tele lenses or even my 'walkabout' zoom in dim light.
Light, and very quickly adjustable for height using the trigger grip.
Extremely convenient and reliable.
I have a Manfrotto 234RC tilt-swivel head attached, with quick release plate, and this combination suits every situation.

If you need a way to support your camera and the bulkiness of a tripod won't do, this is the way to go. The automatic tripod offers a dial up top for tightening the leg to the camera and quick drop extension of the leg through the click of a grip up top. It is perfect for pictures up to 6 feet tall.

When tripods are taboo you might be able to pass this off as a walking stick. Someone might devise a cane type attachment to the top. It's good for reaching out over cliffs and over peoples heads at a parade or other events. On the negative side, it is a little stiff and hard to manipulate until you get used to it. Then it's fine.

This supports a Sigma Bigma OS, Nikon D300, and the 327RC2 joystick head. It supports the weight and easily extends when needed. This is much better than other automatic monopods I've owned as far as mounting stability and ease of adjustment.

I really did not like this product. I found it difficult to open when weighted down with cameras. It's too long and easy to trip over. It doesn't close up to make it short enough to easily carry around and it is heavy. Now I've spent [$] on a product I really hate.

I use the Manfrotto Monopod to support my Canon 40D and 70-200 2.8 lens for sports photography.
The monpod is very smooth and does a very nice job of supporting my camera at eye level so I am ready for the action.

As a sport photographer, I need a sturdy platform for the camera and the Manfrotto 334B was the solution. The advantage of the "automatic" monopod is the capability of adjusting to the right height that you need. I have used the Manfrotto 681B Professional Aluminum Monopod (Black) before but did not like the fact that you have to adjust the height manually.
