I purchased this to put on a Bogen/Manfrotto 679 monopod. The monopod comes with a screw mount but it's fixed in place. This head allows you to pivot the camera up and down (or sideways). Many people prefer this type over a ballhead because with a monopod, you can easily turn the pod itself, so this makes positioning the camera a little less complicated.
This head is simple and easy to use. It's medium-weight for its size and fits nicely on my 679. Even with the head in place, the monopod is still nicely balanced. A heavier head would make the pod topheavy.
The head is heavy enough to secure my Canon 40D and a 70-300mm IS lens (my largest) without moving.
The version I bought has a QR plate. On a monopod, a QR system is especially nice since I typically pop the camera on and off it numerous times, while I tend to mount a camera once on a tripod and leave it for awhile. The plate fits securely on my Canon and isn't annoying if I leave it in place while hand-holding. The plate slips in and is held very securely.
This head has a double-lock. There's the main flip-catch, but there's also a rotating pin lock as a safety. If you put the pin in place, the flip-lock won't release--so you can't accidently release the camera if you bump the release. You can, however, leave the pin unengaged if you don't want the safety. I like having the choice.
All in all I'm very happy with it.

I have a Bogen 2541 6x carbon fibre monopod, and I bought this head through several recommendations.It's solid and works well for what it does, but I'm severely disappointed with the range of motion. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm surprised that there's so many 5 star reviews with this fact. If you set it so you can switch from vertical to horizontal, the only way to tilt your field of view up or down is to physically tilt the monopod, which limits being able to look low or high.I wouldn't necessarily say it's heavy, but compared to my monopod it is. It's 50% of the total weight. I won't consider that a con.

I bought this head to mount on my Manfrotto 679B Monopod. It screws on and is ready to go in seconds. The quick release lock is a little different than the one on my Manfrotto 804RC2 Pan Head but it only takes a couple tries to get used to it. Might be a bit fidgety with gloves on when shooting in colder weather but probably not a deal breaker.
The inclusion of the quick release plate is a nice bonus, particularly if you have a Manfrotto tripod as well. Now I can leave one attached to the tripod collar on my 80-200 2.8L and the other on the camera body. No more swapping!

Seeing how I have both a Manfrotto tripod and momopod, being able to put this on my monopod now makes it much easier to switch between tri and mono. Since the 200PL-14 Quick Release fits all now, I do not have to worry about taking off my camera. Just a quick switch now. Very much worth the great price! And B&H Photos FAST shipping is the best!

I purchased this with the Monopod. The construction, but, when you tilt the camera to take a portrait photo, there is nothing to stop the camera from crashing down onto, unfortunately, my finger...my finger was sore for days and actually was an open wound. Nice sturdy tilting head. Holds my semi-pro weight camera and long lens easily. Doesn't really swivel, but on a monopod, you can swivel the whole monopod. Love the quick release plate on it.

Nothing crazy, just a nice tilt head with a quick release. It turned my cheap monopod into an extremely efficient tool on the go with events videography with my Canon 60D. I love this head on the monopod because it gives a smooth tilt while it's unlocked- nice and loose, giving me ultimate control and leaving the monopod just to keep it steady. I also really like this head because the plate is compatible to the
Manfrotto 323 RC2 System Quick Release Adapter with 323 B, which I put on my tripod so that I can move my camera back and forth easily!
The plastic feels a little chintzy but the plate is sturdy and the quick release lever system seems strong enough (though a little tough to release quickly the first few times).

I use head with the 630B Manfrotto monopod. My first trip out with it was the zoo and it worked out great. I tend to try out new products out at the Saint Louis Zoo since it is close.
The head worked out great, it quickly became a favorite. The quick release works great when you need to take the camera on and off a lot. It will quickly snap back on when you need to in a hurry.
Nice solid construction and goes well with the monopod 630B. If I had to discribe this in one word it would be quality. Pay a little extra and get this head, don't be cheap go for quality.
