The Manfrotto 190XCCSB Short Center Column is compatible with the 190XB, 190XDB, and 190XWNB series tripods. The short column allows the user to take full advantage of the variable leg spread on these units, so that one is not inhibited by the length of the column as to how low one can go. For low-angle use, 6.5" long.

Comments about Manfrotto 190XCCSB Short Center Column for 190XB, 190XDB & 190XWNB Tripods:
This column allows the tripod to be used at a much lower level. It's expensive for its size but it's well made. Others mentioned that the Rubber end-cover isn't very useful and I would agree BUT if you remove the end-cover, you are able to replace it with the end-cover from the original column making the new column much more useful.

Comments about Manfrotto 190XCCSB Short Center Column for 190XB, 190XDB & 190XWNB Tripods:
If you want to get low with a 190XPROB or similar, this is the center column. Two things that you should know though. First, the tripod can not be put in the copy position with this column. I suppose this should be expected with a short column but it makes me want to be able to switch centers with ease and this leads me to my second point. It does not have a built in safety release button at the bottom of the column like the longer center post. It has a rubber protective cover in lieu of the release mechanism. This rubber cover must be removed to remove or install the column. Without the rubber cover the center column can easily fall out of the tripod center when the lock is loose.
Only being critical because of the cost of what really is just a short piece of aluminun pipe. Personally, if I could do it over I would have purchased a replacement center and cut it down to size and reinstalled the release mechanism.

It allows the tripod legs to be extended out, so you can be closer to the ground and maintain support for the camera.

I say it's a cheap way to add convenience, but that's only relatively speaking.[$] for a short center column feels a bit pricey, BUT, it does allow me to mount a 2nd head (in my case a fluid head) and swap columns rather than having to unscrew the head itself from the column and put the 2nd head on. For me that makes it worth it. Added bonus is that you can drop the tripod down low to the ground with a fluid head where you otherwise couldn't. You can't really use a fluid head with the long center column inserted horizontally, so this is the next best thing.

Comments about Manfrotto 190XCCSB Short Center Column for 190XB, 190XDB & 190XWNB Tripods:
Use with 190XproB: economical to own three columns; one for each head. A ball head (Bogen / Manfrotto 486RC2), a video head (late model fluid head) and a pan/tilt (Bogen / Manfrotto 804RC2 3-Way). Daugther has a smaller 190XB tripod/486RC2. We share.
