I bought this lens support for some inexpensive long glass I have that don't have lens collars. I needed to be able to balance the camera and lens on my tripod without stressing the camera to lens connection. This sucker is perfect for that. Considering the price, I was amazed at the quality when I received it. Very solid construction, the lens support section is adjustable for different lenghts. That comes in handy so the support doesn't wid up at the focus ring. The platform is very sturdy and heavy, it also has multiple holes for tripod mounting so you can pick the best balance point. The camera mount has a separate Manfrotto quick release tilting head - very handy for camera/ lens alignment, and can be used on it's own. The velcro lens strap makes it fit any lens. Some have said they use the support for hand-holding, I think it's a little heavy for that. The unit is very well engineered and very simple to use. The weight helps to minimize any movement on the tripod.

Comments about Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support with Quick Release:

This product performs exactly as advertised. I have used the product on several lenses which had no tripod support other than that supplied by the attached camera. The various adjustment features allowed fitting to all of the lenses. But primarily, I wanted a way to support an old Series 1 Vivitar zoom lens on a Minolta film camera. This particular lens, the first made by Vivitar, is extremely sharp, providing some of the best resolution on any lens ever made regardless of brand. Unfortunately, the lens does not have a tripod collar and is very heavy. The 293 Telephoto Support with Quick Release worked like a charm.

Comments about Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support with Quick Release:

I use this lens support , on my macro stand and on my tripod. I have it placed on top of my motorized rail. I was concerned about vibration shooting super macro shots. Also it takes preasure off of my lens mount on my heavy 7D. Five extension tubes and and my EFS 60mm macro lens plus the camera are held firmly in place. The quick release is also great feature. I also have a quick release under the rail to move the whole setup easly and quickly to my tripod. This is a solidly built piece of gear. Dont hesitate. B&H shipped in 1 day great product and great service. Im Happy..

Comments about Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support with Quick Release:

I needed to make a few changes to use this product to fit my particular lens and battery grip. The quick release that came on the support assembly made the lense sit to high to fit in the front support groove. So I also purchased a flat quick release assembly to replace the one that came with the lens support. The flat quick release lowered the camera body and lense to set in the front V support quite nicely. Am happy with the product.

I have a Nikon 200mm 2.8 push pull lens. Super heavy lens. All but impossible to hand hold due to weight. This bracket solved the problem. It's super sturdy & heavy just like the lens it supports. The other bracket was $160. So this is a great buy. Very happy with purchase.

Comments about Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support with Quick Release:

I use the Manfrotto 293 with Sony NEX 5 and Tamron 70-300 mm lens. The Tamron does not come with a lens collar. When extended to full 300 mm the slim body of the NEX 5 does not provide enough leverage for the lens. The Manfrotto support solves the problem. Also, because it is adjustable, it will work with other telephoto lenses I may get in the future. The support is heavy, but I consider it a plus because once the camera and lens are mounted on it, they are basically unmovable.

Comments about Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support with Quick Release:

Excellent build quality. Sturdy and rigid. Great support of the lens at an affordable price.

Disappointed that this can only be used with a Manfrotto quick release on the camera. I am using a Boden tripod, so when changing lenses now, I also have to change the quick release.

When using a long heavy lens (I am using Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 with a 2x TC), tripod mount is much too far back to balance the camera and lens. With camera, lens and bracket weighing in at over 3Kg and trying to hold it off center, need a really sturdy tripod and head to hold this item in place.

Comments about Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support with Quick Release:

One thing about using old glass on a modern DSLR
is the worry of all that unsupported weight
hanging off a nice modern lightweight body.

The #293 fixes that completely, simply and
with the added bonus of moving
the balance point to where it belongs,
giving the ball head a whole new feel.

Build quality is astounding for the bucks
and the one size fits all adjustment is great.

The weight IS a factor, so try before you buy
But, you won't cure that for this sort of money.
Titanium any time you like Mr. Manfrotto!
Buy a spare plate with it if you don't have one, to speed up changeover.

This support was purchased to facilitate mounting a 70-300mm lens on a tripod. It is well made but for one thing - the height of the V-shaped rest is not adjustable. I had to tape a piece of rubber to it so that the lens would by level.

I was worried that this wouldn't adjust to fit my giant old Russian 500mm, but it all fitted together in moments. Perfect fit. The camera attachment pivots so that the lens will rest neatly on the end support no matter the diameter.

It's all very solid and secure and I use this off the tripod to keep everything together.

Since I already have a Manfotto tripod I attached another quick release plate under the whole assembly to snap on and off the tripod. Great !

Comments about Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support with Quick Release:

I have an older version of the Nikon 80-200 F2.8 Push Pull lens. It's a great lens, but kinda heavy, and it didn't come with a tripod color. This Manfrotto Lens Support works great!!! And it's half the price of the alternative!

This should support any lens you can put on it. It is almost over-built.
