The Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket is an ultra-compact and lightweight L-bracket that is custom designed to snugly fit a Nikon D300 camera body. Machined from one single piece of 6061T6 industrial strength aluminum, it provides full access to all switches, sockets, and the battery drawer. This design allows you to release, turn, and remount your camera in mere seconds, when switching from horizontal to vertical orientation and back. It is especially ideal for use with shorter macro, wide-angle, and tilt-shift lenses.

Not sure why I waited to buy one of these, but having a quick-release bracket for tripod work is absolutely indispensible. One of the big benefits is keeping the camera and lens centered over the tripod when shooting in portrait mode. I tried this with a cheap pan-and-tilt head and couldn't keep the camera in position. This works simply and brilliantly.

Received the L bracket today and there seems to be some manufacturing defect/fault with it. The vertical sliding guides fit well into the arca swiss ball head but the horizontal guides are a different size by only a small fraction but which prevents them from sliding in as smoothly as the vertical. On top of this the size of the guides are too wide for the ball head so that when you adjust the width of the ball head plate to accommodate the bracket the plate falls apart because there is no more available spacing left in the screw that holds the plate together. Extremely disappointed to the point that I'm can't believe such an oversight could be made for a product costing this much.

Comments about Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 Camera Body:
I have a D300 and this fits perfectly. The build quality is outstanding. If you plan on using any cables with this bracket on, know that the rubber flap on the D300 is difficult to open with the bracket on. Not impossible, but difficult. I have a CF reader, so there's no real need to hook the camera up to my laptop.
This is my first experience using an L-Plate, and I can't believe I waited this long to get one.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants an L-Plate.

Comments about Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 Camera Body:
Used with Nikon Dl-300 Camera and Markins Q3, QBall
Easy to attach to camera, works pretty well with Markins Qball and Manfrotto Tripod. Easy to attach and detach to tripod.
A little difficult to open Nikon D300 cover on the side of camera to attach USB cord for downloading photos to computer

This is a high quality bracket and snugly fits the D300 body. Some people compalin about the difficulty to open the side of USB connection on left side. I agree with them but I don't see how that can be solved without removing the bracket part that stay there.
Another surprise is that it can fit on the Zeikos ZE-NBG300 Battery Power Grip. Not perfectly but it works fine.
My only negativity towards this is the price. I think $50-80 price range is fair. But all those bracket manufactureres had a collusion and set the price at high level. We customer have to pay it up.

Comments about Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 Camera Body:
I never want to use a tripod without a quick release again!!! But in addition to being faster to attach/detach from the tripod, this bracket makes taking vertical images so much easier. I have a tripod that rotates to make vertical images possible, however, this bracket makes it MUCH easier!!!
Most compartments are still accessible with the bracket on. I haven't had to take mine off yet.

Comments about Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 Camera Body:
Fits nicely on the D300S and allows access to the battery compartment and flash cards. Harder to get to the HDMI and USB connectors but I seldom use those. Nice fit and finish, fits Arca-Swiss style quick release.

Comments about Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 Camera Body:
I found this l-bracket to be well-made, finely machined, and a huge time saver. With some effort I used it to replace the tripod socket on the Nikon AH-4 Hand Grip Strap and have been extremely happy with the result. 11 Days in Paris proved the wisdom of the set-up as it gave me the ability to quickly move from landscape to portrait on the tripod.
I want to give this 4.5 stars because the only drawback is that it makes the side cover a little more difficult to access and close.

I recently spent 4 days at a photo workshop in Jackson Hole and "everybody" had an L-bracket except me! And my photos were never level. Next time I'll be one of the gang.

Comments about Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 Camera Body:
Bought this for landscape shooting. The build is solid and sturdy. However, the "L" looks not exactly right angle(90 degree). Somehow it doesn't match my ball head perfectly. Besides the rubber door (for USB connection) on D300 camera body is kind hard to open.
I think i should go for RRS bracket though it's a little bit more expensive.

Comments about Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 Camera Body:
Going to a quick release system was one of the best things I could have done for my shooting. Most of my work is done off either a monopod or tripod and saving the time it takes to use the screws every time I wanted to change lenses can mean the difference between capturing the great light or missing it. The L-bracket is a time saver too. Now stitching from vertical to horizontal is just a matter of using my quick release.

Comments about Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 Camera Body:
There's nothing exciting about an L-bracket. It does what it's supposed to do - nothing more, nothing less. Not the cheapest piece of metal around, but I guess that's the cost for custom builds.

There's not much to say about this product. It works great and offers stable attachment to anything with Arca-type quick release platform.
Perhaps I slightly misaligned my L-bracket, but D300's rubber side panel door is hard to open through this bracket, the only downside in otherwise superb product.

Comments about Kirk BL-D300 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D300 Camera Body:
It's a bit pricey (which is why only four stars), but exceptionally well manufactured and will certainly outlast me. I like that it's quick and easy to change the camera to a vertical frame without having to hang my camera off the side of the tripod (where gravity works against the clamp) and reframe.
