Tiffen 82mm to Series 9 Adapter Ring
Tiffen 82mm to Series 9 Adapter Rings, sometimes referred to as Step-Up Rings, are mounted directly to the front thread of the lens and provide access to a universal or larger-size round drop-in filter.
It should be noted that to facilitate the use of drop-in filters on threaded and unthreaded lens barrels, Tiffen also uses the Set-Screw-Lock Ring Adapter (SSLR).

I bought this adapter to use on my Canon 16-35 zoom lens. It's the only sane way to step up to my series 9 and 4 1/2" round filters and lens shades. It is extremely useful for this purpose. If you don't want to pay for this ring, you can always use rubber bands to secure filters to lenses, but it's a real pain and they occasionally fall off and could break. Since filters cost more than this adapter, might as well buy it and save your filters.
