Using a "Tri-Titanium" aerospace alloy compromised of aluminum, magnesium, and titanium, the Slik 700DX Pro Tripod Legs has a strength-to-weight ratio 40% greater than comparable tripods in its class. It is a very professional unit whether you're concerned with strength, fit and finish, or refinement of operation. The rapid-type center column cannot rotate accidentally, and the lever locks work securely with a minimum of movement. The 700DX has foam-padded upper segments to ease carrying on your shoulder and working in the cold, and its simple angled rubber leg tips give a firm footing while also allowing you to carry it upon some aircraft.

I do a lot of hiking, with pretty much nothing but hills. These legs have been great at adjusting to the very fluid land changes that I have to deal with. They're very sturdy and extremely adjustable. A portion of the center column unscrews so that you can get the tripod even closer to the ground, which I've found useful on occaison. It also comes up to a nice height, I'm 6 feet and with a head on it, it comes right to eye level without extending the center column which is very convenient. The multiple levels have been amazing to me for taking landscape shots. Some may find it heavier than they would like for long hikes, but it doesn't botther me too much. My biggest con would be the bag that comes with it (very thin and doesn't stay positioned on my shoulder or back very well) but it's still a small complaint.

I purchased this tripod based on its load capacity rating for use with a gimble type lens support and large telephoto lenses. Once in use it's of my opinion that the load rating for this unit may be slightly over-stated. I have since switched my equipment around utilizing this tripod with lighter camera systems and thereby acheiving very good results. I would recommend this tripod to the casual photographer but as a professional there may be limits to its use.

The weight of these legs is pretty substantial, and the movement is very smooth. The locks seem solid- although I haven't put a lot of wear and tear on them just yet. They come with their own bag, so there isn't any need to purchase a separate bag for your tripod.

I combined this tripod with an 808RC4 head by Manfrotto. Much research went into this combination. I think this is by far the best heavy duty rig money can but in this price range period!

Excellent product. Using it for DSLR video, my initial impression is that it is strong, sturdy and tall. Well over 6 feet of clearance. Incredibly fast shipping and delivery.
Haven't put this through production paces yet but I'm sure it will handle them well.
Combined with 501 manfrotto head makes for some really smooth motion for under $300.

I bought this tripod for my 5dmk2 and found that with legs fully extended, I cannot read the top camera screen or see the top knobs without tiptoeing! I am 5" 11 so it would be ok for over 6 footers.

Comments about Slik 700DX Pro Tripod Legs (Black):
As a working pro, I use this for landscapes, portraits and events, supporting heavy Canon 1-series cameras and lenses up to 200mm. The tripod is rock solid, and it gets the camera a bit over six feet up, which is great when I want to stand on a short step ladder for group shots. The height also allows me to shoot at almost eye level (I'm 5'11") without raising the center column, which makes the platform that much more stable. The locking mechanism for the column is very secure and does not scratch the column. The leg locks flip open and closed smoothly and without too much effort, and they lock very securely.
The only thing I can think of that would make this tripod even better would be a geared center column. Without it, raising a heavy rig takes some strength, and the column does not slide smoothly.
My previous tripod was a Slik Master (now the "Master Classic"), which I loved. Basic but extremely rugged and well-made, reasonably light, and affordable, with non-twisting legs and a geared center column, it served me well for at least 20 years. I lost it at a job site recently, and in shopping for a replacement I chose the 700DX mainly for the extra height and stability.
I've had it for a few weeks now, and so far I'm impressed. At the price, it's a steal.

Comments about Slik 700DX Pro Tripod Legs (Black):
The common saying about tripods (light, sturdy, cheap: pick any two) does not apply to this tripod. Yes, whether a tripod is light or not is subjective, but I have no problem hauling this around with one arm. No, you wouldn't take this hiking with you, but for anything else, it's perfect.
All three legs on this tripod have foam padding, unlike most of the competition which have two legs padded or none. The maximum height without column is phenomenal. It allows even tall photographers to be comfortable without having to bend.
The only caution I have is to be careful when expanding/contracting the legs as the bushings are plastic and, of course, may break with sufficient force.
For a tripod head, I would suggest buying a very good one from the start, as I did not find a comparable bang-for-the-buck head. At minimum, I would suggest a Manfrotto ballhead or similar.

It was exactly as advertised. Solid, somewhat heavy, but not bad. [$] for this or 500.00 for carbon fiber?

Comments about Slik 700DX Pro Tripod Legs (Black):
For the cost, this tripod is well constructed and fairly sturdy. Unfortunately, with the sturdy construction also comes the weight. This is by far one of the heaviest tripods I own. I definately would only consider this model for home/studio stationary use or very (very) light field use. Its length also means some special considerations will need to be considered when packing in luggage. The neoprene grip comes in handy when trying to position the tripod with sweaty hands; although it does draw dirt. This tripod does offer a combination 3/8" stud and a 1/4" stud although the smaller stud is hidden in a spring loaded hollow 1/4" stud so its not entirely apparent that its there. The spring loaded hidden stud does make attaching it to a camera a bit of a challenge

I tried both this and Manfrotto tripods at a local shop in Norway. After trying both i found the Slik more stable and felt better built!! Now i bought it from B&H and it works fantastic! The extra weight doesn't bother me at all, and it gets really tall! almost 2 mtrs!

I'm all about budget and these legs met the standard of being well built and within my budget. I paired them with the 501HDV fluid head and I'm happy with my tripod. The legs are strong, easy to adjust, fold up nicely and are not too heavy. Paired with the head comes in under 10 lbs. It really doesn't feel that heavy though.

Comments about Slik 700DX Pro Tripod Legs (Black):
I use this tripod for wildlife and nature photography. It's a tad heavy, but I find it easy to carry on my hikes (the foam leg pads help a LOT). I love the two-piece center column (I've permanently removed the bottom piece, since I find much more use for a low tripod angle, and it's still taller than I am at full extension with the ball head). The lever-type leg locks are very secure so far, and much easier than the screw type from my last tripod. The only "negative" is that the legs are still pretty stiff to fold/unfold, but they are beginning to loosen a bit. I would highly recommend this for someone looking for a good quality tripod on a budget. I don't think you can beat it for value!

I have never owned a "pro" tripod before and was amazed at how much sturdier this was than the ones I had before. I was always nervous about leaving my camera attached, not anymore.

Comments about Slik 700DX Pro Tripod Legs (Black):
I bought these legs because they were the least expensive, very high max height (I'm 6'5", so I needed that), and the lowest height is quite good at about 10". I'm able to get low enough for anything and if I wanted something lower when shooting out at a landscape, I suppose I would just set the camera on the ground if I have to. I originally got this mainly for the height, but I didn't realize how heavy it was actually going to be. If it's going to stay in a studio or something, then this tripod is perfect, but all of my photos are taken as a explore different places.
I was originally going to return it since it was so heavy, but after researching every tripod available on the internet for about 3 hours, I couldn't find one that fit what I was looking for without spending more than 2-3x more for something more lightweight. So I decided to keep it. I won't be taking this with me for trips that require a good amount of hiking, but I'll be using it for everything else.

For the money this is a wonderful tripod. Once you have your camera on it, it's steady and solid. It has several nice features like a reversible mounting plate for 1/4" or 1/3" tripod head connections, and legs that fold in without needing to be unlocked first. This tripod gets very, very tall, and I'm able to use it most of the time without having to extend that last section. It's nice to have that height capability if you need it though. To raise or lower the center rod, just loosen the ring and move it. One slight twist on the locking screw after that and it tight as heck. I'm very satisfied.

I use this for both photo and video, along with an AH717 tripod head and it performs beautifully. It's sturdy, light, and easy to set up and take down. It may be too expensive for some people but you pay for quality, and in my opinion it still is a good value for money.
