I use MFC-7840W on my home Linux network with 3 computers (2 Mandriva boxes and 1 Debian) and Verizon Actiontec router.
MFC Prints, Scans, and Copies well. Do not need and do not use Fax function though.
Printer driver has already been in the system. Scanner driver downloaded from Brother website and installed without a problem though I am NOT Linux guru. Thus, set up was as painless as it could be.
There are two issues I do not like:
1. Unless I missed an alternative way, wireless needs to be set up on the MFC iteself. If your key is short and easy, the wireless set up is as short and easy... but if your WPA2 key is long and comprehensive... you got my point... :-)
2. The device is a bit noisy. I would not say it is very noisy, but definitely could be quieter.
Otherwise, I am fully satisfied with MFC-7840W and would definitely recommend it. Firm 4 stars (it is difficult to get 5 starts from me)

Configured the MFC-7840W for wired network mode. Wired it to a TRENDnet TEG-S80G 1000Mbps Switch, which is in turn connected to an Actiontec GT701WG Wireless DSL Gateway. Loaded the Brother software/drivers on two wired WinXP PCs, one Win7-32 notebook, and one Win7-64 notebook. All four computers print without a hitch. So far, I've only tried scanning from one of the WinXP PCs, but it worked fine. Haven't sent any FAXes yet. Print quality is very good. Noise level is fine; lower than former Samsung and Konica Minolta laser printers, and much better than expected based on some reviews. There is a very slight flicker of lights when the printer starts to warm up; I probably wouldn't have noticed except some reviewers experienced problems with the power load.

I use this MFC in my home office. It's so easy to set up and the wireless feature is great (I have enough cables and don't need anymore)! It prints very fast and the scanning software is simple to use and does a really great job on photos as well as OCR.
Faxing is a little slow but I'm usually not in a big hurry so it really doesn't bother me.

I bought the MFC-7840W laser printer about a month ago after much research. I use it for a personal business printer with a mac computer. No problem at all setting the printer up. It took maybe 10 minutes and it has been very dependable. I love the auto feed scan function. The price was the best for anything comparable and I am very pleased with my selection.

I purchased this printer to be a low use printer for a small business. The quality of the printing has been good for brochures and professional documents for clients. The tax forms and labels have all been good quality with fonts down to 9pt. No noticeable blurring. Relatively quiet. Some cheap plastic latches that look as if they could be a problem down the road, but the extended warranty should cover that. I have only seen better on much more expensive printers.
Set-up was quick and easy to use for wireless printing on Macs with a little effort on the Windows machine because of the need to manually install the drivers. Otherwise, it was easy to get going. It does not easily allow simultaneous use of the fax and an external answering machine without some creative set-up.
I would recommend this printer for a small office especially compared to others in this price range.

MFC-7840W Laser Multi-Function Center with Wireless Networking by Brother is wonderful. I had the HP 3800, which was useless once I upgraded to Leopard. I should have gotten the Brother long ago. It's fast, emails from scans, and is compact.

Scanner, fax, printer and copier are all working great. Setup was quick and easy. One small problem: If you scan a doc using the the document feeder, the result is a little stretched and distorted. The result is fine if you scan from the glass. Ink refills are much cheaper than other brands too.
