Great Converter...function and price
The embedded audio is nice, eliminating the need to run separate cables, as is necessary in other similar type brand converters. AND...for this convenience, you actually pay LESS than the competing ...Read complete review
The embedded audio is nice, eliminating the need to run separate cables, as is necessary in other similar type brand converters. AND...for this convenience, you actually pay LESS than the competing brand's asking price. Oh,..and the power supply is ALSO included,..which is not the case with the other brand, which sells theirs separately.
Most importantly perhaps though,..is the fact that this converter DOES convert from component analog HD to SDI (and/or) HD-SDI which is not immediately evident in the literature and listings. I bought the other brand first as a result of this misconception, and then later bought this Black Magic converter as well. Both perform the same basic conversion function, and work just fine, except that the Black Magic converter has the embedded audio capability, if you choose to utilize it.

Purchased this mini converter to convert the analogue signal from my JVC GY-HD201E in order to provide an HD-SDI output to my new Hyperdeck Shuttle, which works very well. The power requirement appears to be very strict. It would not power up from the D-Tap directly from my camera battery, but only works with the Switronix - Powertap BlackMagic Converter which regulates the power. This is an additional cost. Also, there are no camera mounting options available.

Upgraded my edit system and could not use my old analog cameras until this lifesaver. Solved most of all my ingest problems. Ideal for those who are still working with the old system, but requires performance and high quality. I'll go for it anytime, any day.

I love this thing beyond belief. It is so diverse and does exactly what it says. I only wish there were a way to put it deep in my rack and have a breakaway control panel for the dip switches.

I'm a big AJA fan, so I was hesitant buy a couple of Blackmagic Mini Converters... I'm very happy I did. Conversion looks great and I love the USB interface to adjust settings. They include the power adapter ($40 savings), although the connection doesn't lock like the AJA does.
