The ADVC-HD50 Real-Time HDMI to HDV Converter from Grass Valley is a device that can instantly convert uncompressed HD video and audio from HDMI devices to HDV format output via a FireWire connection. This device requires no special software or drivers to use and is compatible with PC and Mac computers and NTSC and PAL standards.
This solution is well suited for the creation of video packages from HDMI sources, as well use in game development and 3D art that requires capture from an HDMI source. This product does what it says: takes in HDMI and outputs HDV via firewire. FinalCut and iMovie picked up our Panasonic Professional AG-HMC40P AVCHD camcorder. FYI: Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder, Windows Media Encoder, and Windows Movie Maker do not yet support HDV, so this product will not work with them. For that, you need a product that down-converts to standard DV, such as the Grassvalley ADVC-55.
