Manfrotto 046G Expan Background Paper Drive Set with Grey Chain and Weight
The Manfrotto Expan Drive Set incorporates two expandable core units. One side has a large toothed gear to which a nylon link chain affixes, permitting convenient raising and lowering of the background paper roll. The other side has an adjustable tension drag. The double core units are unique in that when the overall screw on which the drive unit is mounted is tightened, the drive expands from a minimum of 1.8" to 2".
To accommodate cored paper rolls in any length, all you do is insert the Expans at both ends, tighten up until they're snug and mount the entire assembly on your background holder hooks.
This item replaces old catalog #2920G.
- A heavy duty, metal chain is available separately: 2924.
- This items includes a weight for the plastic chain, to keep it steady.

I bought a set of these for a friend setting up a studio, they work great. The only problem we had was the first few uses they are very stiff and if you don't have your brackets mounted solid you may end up with a roll of paper on your head. Again though this was only after the original setup and it has improved.

I received this product as part of a B&H Photo bundle package. After reading reviews warning of how easily the chains break, I resolved to buy the system anyway and just be very careful when rolling my backdrops up and down. No amount of care will stop the chains from breaking. Within 5 minutes of installation, the chain broke three times. The chains are simply just too flimsy and it is my opinion that this product should be removed from the site. Avoid! Get metal chains!

OVerall this product is great for rolls of paper, but I may have pushed this one with a roll of vinyl. The roll has it's own issues, but this seems to struggle with handling the weight. I can see the gear side bending down as I pull on the chain and the it also skips teeth form time to time. Nothing major has happened, but I am extremely cautious when using this one with a roll of vinly.

I received this product as part of a B&H Photo bundle package. I have recently set up a photographic studio and decided to give the Expan system a go rather than stick with the portable background system I have always used. This chain and weight system is very easy to figure out and use. The weight works perfectly to hold the plastic chain taught.

Whats to say. Their background drivers and they do what their supposed to do! I use three different color backgrounds for product shots and the ease of changing the backgrounds is simplified with this product.
