This is a replacement black /Manfrotto Expan Drive Metal Chain. Metal beats plastic for strength and longevity, as far as Expan Drive chains go. It is 11.5' (3.5 m) long.
This item replaces old catalog #2924.

Good addition of you are using more than 9' rolls of paper. Works great on the 12' rolls of paper and the smaller sizes of painted canvas. (Haven't tried on any wider than 9') I would recomend this upgrade to anyone using more than the 9' rolls of paper.

Like most Manfrotto equipment, this metal chain is rock solid, very reliable, and an almost necessary upgrade from the plastic chains included with Expan systems. Although disassembly of the Expan is required to install them, they're well worth the effort (which is minimal).

I purchased these to replace the plastic chains for the Expan set to get the extra strength and durability, and they are definitely worth it in that regard. I have 2 rolls of 12' paper for video work, each on one of these chains. The one thing I wish is that these were a little longer, as I intentionally wanted my backgrounds to hang higher, at about 12'. At that height, the chains are a little short and hard to reach/operate. I actually bought an extra chain and used it to manually lengthen the other two. Other than that, great product!

Don't take you chances if you use vinyl backgrounds.
Plastic one just don't cut it. Avoid danger and embarrassment of unwound and crashed background.

I recently bought the Manfrotto auto pole system which works great except for the CHEEP plastic chains that comes with it. I would pull as gently as I could and it would break every time. Not good in front of clients.
So I was forced to buy the metal ones.
I left messages, and emailed manfrotto but got no reply.
