Our office bought this product to transfer our many VHS tapes to DVD. When all was said and done the product did it job. However, a week-long dialogue between myself and Pioneer was required first (support was prompt and thorough via email, a BIG plus). This product is set up for a Korean market and I had to bear the dizzying effects of setting up the machine from a scrolling screen! One other con is that the recording can only take place in real time hence a 2 hour movie will take 2 plus hours(with finalizing)to record. However, I'm sure this fault is due to the VHS technology, still, for the price couldn't Pioneer speed it up a bit?

Finding a DVR with Hard Drive and NTSC Tuner for the US Market has become next to impossible. Many of the brands that made these units in the past (Panasonic, Toshiba) no longer do. This is one of the few (only?) units I've seen available.

If you plan to use the NTSC tuner on this unit in the United States on a standard coxial cable (F Connector), you will need to buy two adapters. I found both of these at my neighborhood RS electronics store and they are also available online. One PAL Female (European TV) to F Connector (Female) and One PAL Male (European TV) to F Connector (Female). They are both relatively inexpensive (less then $15 for both).

The default on this unit is 625 line system (PAL), you will need to change it to 525 (NTSC)or the video and sound will be bad.

The default for HMDI output will be 1080p, if your TV isn't 1080p, you will need to use the included component video cables (red, white, yellow) first to view the set up screen to change the default (to 720p).

Auto tune didn't work as expected. This unit would not automatically tune all of my unscrambled US cable stations... it tuned most, but they were not in order. I ended up manually tuning and assigning all of my cable TV stations. (Selecting US and M/N sound). That took about 15 minutes.... but was relatively simple.

Despite all of the effort required in the initial set up, this unit is well worth all of the trouble as it now works like a charm. The learning curve might be a little steep for someone new to DVR's, but it's operation was very much like my old Panasonic units so it was easy for me to use.

The Automatic TV Guide and Auto Time setting didn't work for me (in my area), but I don't mind manually programming the shows I record.

This Pioneer unit is great, lots of storage on the Hard Drive, Chase recording, no monthly fee and the ability to xfer to DVD's from the Hard drive. It's a Little expensive, but still Highly recommended for the functionality it provides. Get them while you can.

Was searching for a high-end recorder with hard- drive, and Pioneer has the quality and features that doesn't disappoint. The only distraction so far is the clock and timer functions use international date and times format only, otherwise it's straight forward and easy to use. As expected, the picture and sound quality are also excellent. Highly recommend!
