Backpack is comfortable and great for holding a decent amount of gear.Took this on a 20 mile off road bike ride with a Canon 40D, 28-135mm attached, Canon HDV30, and Canon G9, plus cleaning gear and misc stuff for the trip. (still had room for an aditional lens as well) Backpack felt great the entire trip and held everything very nice. Also use it daily during work and travel with a 15' HP Enterprise class notebook, plus all listed above.Top section is big enough to hold a hardcover novel, plus keys, phone, IPod, etc.Works really well with the Kata Reflex E neckstrap which can attach directly to the shoulder straps.I've used the pull out side pouch for either hold drink bottles or a light mono/tri-pod.Only thing that could improve it is adding a few zipper or velcro pouches in the top section to seperate stuff.Recommend purchasing two quick release utility clips[...] and attaching to the rear buckles. Then connect the bottoms of the harness straps to the utility clips. Makes it so the straps don't dangle in the way and stops the harness straps from letting out too far.

I really wanted to love this bag. I like the way the bottom compartment opened, plenty of room for my standard 3- or 4-lens travel kit, sufficient (but not great) pockets for storage, and the yellow interior really does make it easy to find stuff inside. Seems well constructed, and the interior padding looked more than sufficient, unless you plan on throwing the pack against a rock it should do fine to protect your gear.
SO I loaded it up with my gear, even found that I could lash my Gitzo Traveler pod on the side (just stick one foot in the monopod/drink holder), and I was good to go. It was full, but by no means overstuffed.
I lift it up, put it on, and that's where it all goes to pot. The shoulder straps are too thin to handle the load, there's no way to adjust the upper straps to change the center of gravity, and the hip belt is just a piece of canvas with no thought into how it supports or helps carry the load. Even wearing it for a short time, I can tell this would be one uncomfortable pack to rely on for any kind of travel or hiking.
So this one is getting returned and I'm keeping the Mountainsmith Borealis instead. Sad thing is, I would have kept this bag, if its shoulder support was even half as good as the Mountainsmith.

I bought this for a 4 month trip to Costa Rica, including weeks in the rainforest. I like the Kata's water protection, the quick access to the camera and lenses without exposing them excessively to the elements and its relatively small size. Being designed to also carry a laptop, it's not as small as some 'photog gear only' packs but is still compact. Outside zip pockets for lens tissue, etc are a plus. Camera weight pulls pack down and back more than I would like but not a huge problem. All in all I a good pro pack.

Comments about Kata DR-467 Digital Rucksack (Black with Red Accents):
Pros:
1. I need a backpack that not only carry my camera gears, but other travel necessities such as mp3 players and passport, and this bag does the job
2. cheap.
3. strong build
4. Yes as many folks mentioned a yellow colored interior make it easier to find small stuff
Cons:
1. I have a D200 with Sigma 17~70 lens. it is very tight to fit in the provided space so I removed one divider. the space left can only hold one Sunpak flash and a small lens. Basically it is too tight for a camera with lens mounted and 3 other lenses, as claimed by Kata.
2. All photographers know that they have so many small things to carry: filters, batteries, chargers, memory cards etc. so we need small pockets as many as possible. But KATA does seem to know this and trying to do the opposite. They could have made at least 4~5 extra pockets on the exterior, but there is none!
3. the external storage in the upper compartments have the openings in vertical direction. What does Kata think? don't they know that a horizontal opening will hold much more stuff (and hold more securely)?

Comments about Kata DR-467 Digital Rucksack (Black with Red Accents):
I am able to easily hold the camera body and lenses, laptop and plenty of little items (batteries, cables, cards) in this bag. It is able to easily meet my space needs and storage requirements. There are plenty of pockets and little storage nooks in addition to the camera section and the laptop section.. leaving plenty of room for flashes, some books, documents and the like.
It feels strange to me when worn, because of the solid backing for the laptop instead of a more flexible one in regular backpacks. With the camera pouch fully unzipped, I am able to get easy access to all parts of that pouch. It is easy for me to get in a habit of only unzipping the camera pouch part way, which makes adding or removing items a bit more challenging.
My only real complaint with this rucksack is that there isn't large enough to easily hold my school supplies, laptop and camera all at once.

I bought this bag to use as a carry-on for a recent trip. It was important for me to have a place to store my camera, flash, video camera, and laptop, and I wanted some extra room for other sundries. I am absolutely pleased. The bag fits the camera, flash and video camera snugly on the bottom, laptop in the back, and allows for plenty of other things on the top pocket.
There is a newer version of this bag, which I would recommend over this one, since it allows you to join the top compartment and the bottom compartment to make this into a multifunction bag. At the time of purchase, the new version hadn't been widely released, and I couldn't wait. That said, I do not regret this purchase at all.
There is one thing you should be aware of. It is easiest to access the camera with the camera not on your back. It is possible to sling the bag around and reach around to access the camera compartment, but it is a bit of a stretch. If you are looking for a quick-access bag, you might look at the DT family.. I have a previous version and love it. They are much smaller, but you have the ultimate access to your camera.
I would recommend this bag to anyone who needs a way to carry their camera, computer and a few extra items. The bag is very comfortable, configurable, and very durable.

I wanted a bag to hold all of my DSLR and video camera equip as well as 17" laptop.
The lower compartment of this backpack fits DSLR with lens attached + 2 other med size lenses. Likely could fit a flash as well depending on size of your lenses.
The upper compartment fits all my mini dv camera equipment + some and lens hoods for my DSLR.
Would be useful to have velcro divider compartments in the upper portion.
17" macbook is fairly snug but fits.
Great protection for equipment and i would guess it would be a nice rucksack for a hike - however i have not done so yet.

Fits 2 camera bodies and a couple of lens, with a few accessories and my 15.6 laptop. Fits tightly but still fits. Nice padding. Heavy when fully loaded but only 1 thing to tote. Haven't yet tried to attach tripod. Nice value for the money.

My Nikon D300 fits nicely along with a flash unit and telephoto lens. Still lots of room for accessories and a spot for a Flip video.
I wish there was a way to contain the many straps and tails of straps.

This is a very nice laptop/camera backpack that is not only lightweight but also very roomy. I have a D80 with an 18-200 lenses attached that fits quite nicely, extra room for another lens or two. Pockets for filters, memory cards, cleaning clothes, mini flashlight and more. That is in addition to the large pocket at the top that I can carry a book, a sweater or windbreaker, hand sanitizer, biz cards and a few other miscellaneous items, including a small point and shoot.
The fact that bag comes with a raincover is nice as well. I do wish the cover was black and not bright yellow like the inside of the bag, but that is a very small compromise that in the long run really doesn't matter. I like the yellow lining in the bag though as it offers you a quick view for smaller items.
This bag is made of very good quality and appears to be quite durable. I am heading to NYC next week for a couple days and this will be perfect. While it does not have a specific place for a tripod, I think that a lighter weight one would be able to attach to the straps, especially with a bungee cord.
I compared many bags and liked that this one was not only lighter without anything in it, but just as durable and protective of my equipment. You cannot find another for less that $150 that will offer all the options this bag has. And I too, am happy that it does not scream "camera bag filled with expensive electronics". It does have a small computer icon on the back where the laptop goes and I would have preferred they left that off, but again a minor item for such an awesome bag!

Great Pack for a DSLR and assorted lenses. A lot of room for the size, many pockets to keep things organized, a place that a MAC Book Pro 17" computer will fit in (I tried it), comfortable on the back or slung over a shoulder, stands upright on it's own!I really liked the yellow lining, it was a great help in finding smaller items and the yellow and black combination are Nikons colors so my D300 felt very comfortable in it. The heavy equipment is carried in a lower compartment that opens like a drawer, it really works well for the balance of the pack and helps it stay centered on your back. The enclosed rain cover came in very handy on my first use. The small details like the way the zippers fit into rubber sleeves are much appreciated. Very happy with my choice [...]

we just came back from a 12 day trip to ireland, london and paris. my husband and i used one backpack to hold both of our nikon d60 cameras with 2 attached lenses and 1 zoom lense. the pack held all our equipment safely. the pack has a sizeable area to store other travel items above where the cameras are stored, which is nice. there are various smaller pockets to hold smaller items and numerious straps outside the pack to hold jackets or a tripod. the laptop area is also convenient. the only reason i would not give this pack a 5 star rating is that the area against your back doesn't breathe well - carrying the pack around for extended periods of time causes your back to sweat which can be uncomfortable. otherwise the backpack is a great find, perfect for traveling.

This backpack has plenty of room for my 15" MacBook Pro, almost too much. The camera and laptop compartments are well padded. I wouldn't recommend this bag for 2 cameras. The thing I find lacking with this bag is there are no storage pockets for smaller items, like SD cards or the remote for my camera.
