The EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus, part of the EarPro line from Surefire, offer outstanding hearing protection in a discreet and comfortable design. The earplugs allow you to hear routine sounds and conversation, while blocking any sounds above 80dB. If even more protection is needed, eliminating the ability to hear even routine sounds, the attached stoppers can be inserted.
The Sonic Defenders are color-coded for the right and left ears, and are constructed from a soft hypoallergenic polymer. The ergonomic triple-flanged design provides a secure and comfortable fit. The low profile also allows you to wear them under a helmet or mask.

I used the EP4s for two different IDPA matches. One indoor and the other an outdoor range. I was really surprised at the comfort and how well they block the gunshot noise. The best part was being able to hear the range commands. Each match was about 4 hours long. The EP4s are very comfortable and light. They did a great job

I am really glad I spent the extra money for these ear plugs!.. I work where it is required to wear earrings protection and the soft roll up ones drove me nuts. Another reason I bought these were to use while hunting or target practice. The soft rubber material that they are made of feels great in the ear and doesn't rub my ears raw like some other brands. One really nice thing about the size is that I can wear them with a helmet on with out them hitting the sides or falling out. Over all a great product and would recommend them to anyone that wants to protect their ears from high levels of noise.

The EP4's are extremely friendly color coded to let you know which piece goes where. Once you get that solved, prepare to not be bothered by loud booth monitors or overpowering systems. You can still hear conversational level speech just fine, which is absolutely wonderful. It does a great job at filtering or muffling out those excessively high frequencies or vibrations. Recommended.

Super comfortable, effective and actually do what they say.
I used to use the cheap foam earplugs for shooting, riding my motorcycle and mowing the lawn. They would invariably fall out or become uncomfortable and just never seemed to work very well. You would also completely muffle all sounds.
The SureFire EP4's are great in that they are very comfortable, yet still allow you to hear a lot of the lower dB sounds. Granted you are wearing ear plugs so the sound is not perfect but they do a great job.
I would recommend these without hesitation!

The product works exactly like it's supposed to, I can hear people, but the loud dB from shooting guns doesn't leave my ears ringing. [...]I would recommend this product.

Most of my photo shoots are of local bands in small clubs. Which means being up close to get good shots. And of course up close means LOUD. Standing in front of a PA speaker to get a good angle can be quite an experience. My old plugs helped, just not very much. When I first got them I was impressed with the way they fit. Very comfortable and without a lot of material hanging out of my ears. When I used them I and my ears were very happy. Being able to have conversations and still hear the music without the numbing effect was exactly what I was looking for. And I found it in this product. Wish I had them when I was playing in bands.

Simply amazing. Ability to hear lower volume noises while blocking out higher volume noises is a wonderful concept for shooting. Just to be clear though, it's not like you can hear everything as if you don't have them on, but you can hear most things (TV, someone talking, etc.) They measure size according to your Helix Bowl. 1" = medium, >1" = small, <1" = large.

I'm in the armed forces and work as a crew chief in aviation. I've used these earplugs around diesel generators (2k-10k) as well as around aviation assets which normally require double hearing protection. However I've yet to use these with two of my favorite hobbies (shooting and playing drums)
Compared to the yellow 'foamies' the EP4 Sonic Defenders really help reduce the intensity of the heavier (muddy) low frequencies, as well as blocking some of the painful higher frequencies while still safely allowing conversational tones to pass (with ports open). And that is something strongly desired in my line of work.
The pros I would list as:
-Affordable
-Fairly easy to use
-Easy to clean
-Can wear headsets or helmets in addition to (without painfully smashing into your inner ear)
Cons:
-Ports can be awkward to close while wearing
-Require minor adjustments when worn for long periods
-Storage container they are packaged with isn't designed for long term/rugged use
On a personal note I would prefer a size small, but they do not seem to be available in this model (only the EP3s). I am 5'5" with larger than average ears, my ear canal(bowl) seems to be right on the borderline on the size recommended. If you don't absolutely need a triple flange plug (for shorter exposures or lower sound levels) I would advise the EP3s as the EP4s (on smaller ears) can cause discomfort or a 'fatigue' like feeling on the cartilage after 20-25 minutes of so..
Eight years in the military (including deployments) and a many more years attending concerts and playing shows and I still have sensitive hearing from repeated use of ear protection.
Though I can't say how the EP4s will respond to other uses/industries I have and do recommend this product to others.

I go to the shooting range and track days often and i spend so much money on ear plugs. with these, all i do is wipe them down with an alcohol pad after i'm done and they are as good as new. These plugs are also easier to use than the regular plugs. You don't have to roll them up when your fingers are all dirty and think of all the money you will be saving in the long run. Must have.

While my primary use for these is firearms testing, I can think of a slew of situations where they come in handy. In a shop, loud production office, equipment room, etc.
So far I have zero issues with them, although they do get a bit snug after extended wear.

Comments about SureFire EarPro EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus Earplugs (1 Pair, Medium):
I use the EP4 Sonic Defenders in two situations. First is at work, in a data center. With the plugs open on the EP4s I can work in the data center with the server noise dramatically reduced and still have conversations with other people. The other time I use these is riding my Yamaha Majesty. With the plugs open the wind noise is reduced while still being able to hear sirens, etc. At a gathering place, with a lot of bikes running, just put the plugs in to reduce noise even more.
The EP4 Medium fits my ear well. In fact it is the only design that I can keep in my ear under a helmet! Lightweight, easy to clean, inexpensive to replace, box to keep them in, and perfect for these uses. You can also plug the hollow tube style sound cords into them.
On the down side, don't expect them to handle really high levels of noise. When I am on my commercial mower I still have to use headband style ear protection, as these do not reduce noise enough.
These are a great item for the price and if used in the correct situation.

Comments about SureFire EarPro EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus Earplugs (1 Pair, Medium):
Living in South Florida and a frequent indoor gun range user I find the earmuff hearing protectors a real pain in the heat index.
I researched the in-the-ear type protectors and found numerous high marks for the Sonic Defenders Plus EP4's. Thinking I could use both, and when not shooting, remove the muffs still protecting me from other shooters.
I shoot a combination of 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP and when I use the EP4s with the stopper plugs installed, NO EAR MUFFS!! The 45 is right at the edge and if someone is using a larger bore hand gun or rifle the muffs go back on. They are comfortable and if I need to converse with someone I can still hear them.
I highly recommend this product and am very happy with my purchase.
