The Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium is designed to fit a digital SLR camera with a mid-range zoom lens attached, 3-4 extra lenses and accessories. It uses TST RIB structural protection for the equipment. The pack has three carrying options in one; changing from sling to "X" position to backpack and back again. It is fast and easy by using the quick release buckles. The bottom main compartment of the pack holds equipment and uses the modular dividers to custom fit the bag. The large top compartment will hold personal gear or additional gear, and it has internal pockets and a MP3 player pouch.

Two external zippered pockets allow quick access to accessories without opening the main compartments. In sling position, the bag easily swings around from back to front to achieve quick draw access to the main camera and extras lenses. In backpack position and "X" position, the equipment can be comfortably carried for long distances. The included chest belt and balancing hip strap help take the load of heavy equipment off the shoulders. The included rain cover folds neatly away into an integrated pocket and can be hung out to dry on the small buckle next to the handle, or tucked away for storage in one of the pockets.

I have been a bit of a bag [*] since i started shooting. i cant count the number i have had. it is very hard to find the perfect bag to fit every use. i was really looking for one bag to have with me all the time. i was working out of two bags and it was always a pain to figure out where to put my prime equipment and what to keep in the secondary bag. i carry everyday, but only the main bag. i started with the Kata #30, which i loved, but it was just too big to carry every day. if i traveled a lot, i would have kept it, because i could literally keep everything in it. however, it was just too big for what i needed. i sent it back to B&H and exchanged for the #20. (B&H, as always, was great about the return) i do love this bag. i can still fit tons of stuff in there (Nikon D80, 18-135 lens, 50 mm prime lens, two SB800s, macro lens, wide angle lens, Picture Porter Elite, etc, etc, etc. Also can fit all my cords, filters, pens, memory cards and chargers. The only thing that i have trouble fitting is my Justin Clamp. the best thing about this bag, besides how much it holds, is the fact that it can be carried so many ways. it is called 3-N-1, but really it is at least 4. i carry it as a one strap backpack for short carries (just over one shoulder with the second strap hidden away) and as a sling for longer carries, when i want to be able to sling it forward, put out my camera and then put it back. the only complaint i have is the way the zippers meet on the main compartment. they go up to under the buckle, but not all the way. i would rather see the zipper go all the way around. the buckle covers the "gap", but i dont see it as that weather resistant in extreme weather. it does come with a rain pouch (which actually is in the way when not in use), but i would rather see a fully water proof construction and ditch the pouch. Kata's tripod strap system is not compatible with the 3-N-1, but i have been told they are working on it.

Bought this pack for day tripping and not having to carry the Tamrac Pro 12.Nice looking compact bag. It is well made and the zipper/clip design is a good feature (you cannot unzip completely without undoing clips). It is very comfortale to carry with one or both straps. It also has a hand hold on top if you would like to carry it that way. It has a very small main compartment. It took me a good bit of time to configure the dividers to fit my Sony A900 w/vertical grip and the 2.8 28-70mm zeiss along with sony HVL58 flash unit. After getting it all in, there isn't any room left. To carry a second lens I will have to stow it, or the flash in the top compartment. Even with my old A100 there is no way I could carry 3-4 lenses, as stated in the description. I gave serious thought to returning this for the largest 3n1 until I read the specs. the main compartment in it is only a bit longer and wider with the depth being the same. And with this large camera and grip more depth is what I need. The other drawback to me are the compartment flaps, they are durable but very stiff, you cannot unzip the pack and lay the flap back and have it stay back. It flips right back to the closed position. Which means you have to hold the flap back wth one hand and "dig" with the other. With a smaller camera I'm thinking this would be a great bag. But with a pro sized DSLR... shop further.

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

First off I am relatively new too photography own a Minolta Maxxim and the new Canon T3i and they both fit snug in there with two 75-300 tele lenses. The top compartment can hold all the filters you need and has a very secure yet comfortable feel too it. The sling conversion is nice though I don't use it much. All in all this is one amazing backpack and for the price you can't go wrong, it is super comfortable while providing protection to all your gear!

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

Well made bag. Easy to 'sling'. I also had the Kata 3N1 33 sling. It was just too big. Maybe if you are planning on a photo safari and want everything in one bag, it would be OK. The Medium is perfect for a day hiking the woods or city.
The width will take a Nikon D5100 with 70-300 IF-ED f4.5/5.6 VR II with 0" left over.

I easly got the following in the bottom and have quick access (from the side flap) to everything:
        1. Nikon D5100 with either a Nikon 18-200 f3.5/5.6 or 70-300 f4.5/5.6 (The other stores in the bag)
        2. Tamron 60 f2
        3. SB-600 flash
        4. Spare D5100 battery and charger
I have assorted filters/memory cards/AA batteries/etc in the upper portion and there is still plenty of room for snacks, water bottle, etc

        Cons:
Strip velcro on the bag itself as opposed to covering the entire inside of the bag with the 'loop' side.
No good place for a tripod

        Great bag

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

I just got the 3n1-20, and I completely packed the bag full of just camera equipment.

        50D & Grip w/ Sigma 30mm 1.4 mounted
        100mm 2.8 Macro
        10-22
        70-200F4L IS
        50mm 1.8
        18-55 kit

I managed to fit all of the above in the bottom part of the bag, the 50 and 18-55 are stacked on top of each other in one of the spaces, but they're snug enough that they won't move around. The 100mm macro and 10-22 are at the bottom of the bag facing depth-wise. The 70-200 is at the top of the lower compartment width-wise, and the camera and 30mm are in the quick-draw part.

in the top section of the bag, i fit a 430 exII with the loaded AA pack for the grip, various filters and filter cases, and the caps for both the body and lenses, and haphazardly threw in the cokin filter holders and have the adapter rings in one of the zippered compartments.

That's a lot of equipment that I fit into this bag, and with all of it, it's pretty heavy. Considering it's the medium, I would imagine the large would be too big for me. I like the fact that my equipment is snug and wont move with movement of the bag. I'd also like to note, that NOTHING else will fit into my bag. Chances are, I'd like to use this bag more as an outing pack to hold only necessary gear, instead of all of it. I do like it more than the Canon bag that I had, and like the versatility of the straps.

Like someone else mentioned, I'm simply amazed that all of this fit, and doubted it when I first opened the box from B&H.

        Hope this helps someone.

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

Looked at several camera bags, backpacks and slings for my Nikon D7000. I have not found any with better quality than the Kata 3. It can be converted to a backpack if needed. Holds the D7000, an 18 - 105mm lens, a 55 - 300 lens, and a 50mm f1.4 easily. Plenty of room for an extra flash, spare battery/charger, cords and personal effects such as a cell phone. Plenty of adjustments for a larger person and a sturdy top handle. Comes with a "rain coat" for the bag as well. Has quick access capability when worn as a sling. Like the construction, zippers, latches, which all seem to be well made.

I've used several bags and packs for my Nikon DSLRs, D80, D90 and I like this for a small to medium sized sling that also works well with 2 backpack straps for when the load gets heavy, such as when using the tripod holder accessory. It holds a D90 with battery grip and 16-85 VR zoom, plus my Tokina 11-16, Nikon 35 f/1.8 and SB700 flash with some room to spare. The sling and side opening are unique and work well. I love that it sits upright on its base, has a handle and the sling strap can tuck under the trolley strap when not in use for a handy-to-grab-and-go package. Love the yellow interior, makes things easy to find.

Two-man team uses this bag for run & gun shoots in city settings. We were able to get a Canon 5D w/ 50mm, a Nikon D7000 w/50mm, and a Nikon D50 w/18-105mm in it. The bag wears very comfortably. Traveled perfectly on airplane, streetcar, taxi... whatever. Gear is well protected and easy to access. Plenty of accessory pockets. We were VERY pleased with the bag, the price, and (as always) B&H's ability to deliver great products and service! Thanks guys!

Very comfortable and the ability to switch from backpack to sling is welcomed. I love how easy it is to get to your camera in a hurry.

I use the bag to store and to be able to just grab it to go. I like the space and the fact that I can set up the spaces the way I want them set up. I also purchased the optional tripod holder, which is easy to attach and easy to use.

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

I needed a backpack so I could travel by myself with my equipment and my two kids. So I was drawn to the Kata bags in the 3N1 family because I could be hands-free, store some snacks, toys and personal items in the top compartment, and still have easy access to my camera (with the genius side-entry access) for those moments I wanted to capture while on the go.
This bag definitely fit the bill!

But I HATE plain black bags! I know, I know... there are plenty of fashionable purse/shoulder/messenger/hobo style bags for women out there. But I'm a backpack kind of gal! As I'm scouring the internet and giving up all hope of a pro-quality bag that is also unique, I remember thinking, "At least the inside of this one is bright!". It does totally eliminate the "black hole" effect of never being able to find anything in the bottom of a bag. It's also well padded and easy to configure around my gear. The material (other than the fact that it's black!) is awesome. Very well made.

So I put my desire for something cute aside and went with Kata. (I don't want flowers or girly-girly stuff! Just give me some silver/red or brown/green or even leather options!)
I guess if it has to be black... this bag is perfect!

                        Note:
This particular Kata did NOT, however, fit my 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom. I could have attached it to my 7D and configured the interior vertically and it would have worked just fine. But I would have lost the side-entry access and would have had to give up the personal storage space at the top of the bag. I went with this medium size because I'm only 4'11" and I thought the large might be too big/heavy for me. But it was so comfortable (even fully loaded), I think I can handle the next size if it means I get to take my zoom with me! So this 3N1-20 is going back in exchange for the 30.

I've had this bag for a few months now. It's very easy to get to my gear without setting it on the floor. The size is perfect for my equipment; I have a Canon Rebel XSI, a Tamron 17-50 2.8,a Tamron 70-300 VC,and a Canon Flash 480EX. The yellow color makes finding stuff a lot easyer.

This works very well for carrying my DSLR, a couple of lenses and various accessories. Items are easy to access while photographing various features on trails in National Parks. Previously, I carried the DSLR around my neck, with some lenses in pockets on a photo gear vest....very awkward and uncomfortable! This unit provides excellent support and carry options and I easily keep my balance on rougher trails.

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

I wanted a sling for rapid employment of my camera, but didn't want to wear out one shoulder. This bag is great in that you can alternate which shoulder you use to carry the sling from, changing the internals is pretty easy. When I'm traveling a while, knowing I won't want to take any pictures I easily pull out the second strap, convert the sling to a backpack and catch up to my kids who get bored with my photography.

I have a d90 with 2 zoom lenses, filters, fixed lens and some other extra equipment and there is plenty of space for a flash and another lens or two.

If you want a sling with options for wear, this is the one for you.
