The LETUS35 Extreme Adapter LT35EX77EX1 is a lens adapter for 35mm still camera lenses to adapt for use on video cameras. This adapter allows the video camera to have access to prime lenses that create a shallow depth of field. The Extreme offers the best quality from Letus35 and allows the user to work with an upright image. This model is optimized for the Sony PMW-EX1.
- Shallow Depth of Field
- Shallow Depth Of Field is a very powerful tool for telling a story and getting details across. Many movies use this feature yet cameras nowadays with small CCDs cannot produce this optical effect. The main purpose of this adapter is to bring shallow depth of field film look to low budget filmmakers with DV or HDV cameras.
- How it Works
- This adapter involves the concept of using a 35mm SLR still camera lens to project an image onto a translucent piece of moving glass. This projected image is then literally focused on by the DV or HDV camera and recorded. All this takes place in a tube.
- Quality
- Letus35's concentration is on sharp focus, aberration, grains, barrel distortions, audible noise, vibrations and weight making their adapters an excellent optical accessory. They immediately update their adapters, if they find that changes are necessary.
- Image
- Image is read upright for easier operation and this adapter only loses 1/2 stop of light sensitivity.

- This kit comes with the 77mm adapter ring for camcorders with 77mm lens filter threads.
- Sony PMW-EX1

Collimating the lens of the adapter is a fairly simple task that involves loosening the lens mount and moving it incrementally in or out to attain proper focus on a backfocus chart. The Extreme could be flipped over and used in a upper configuration, but the size of the flip unit causes it to come in contact with the built-in camera microphone on the Sony EX1

I just shot a commercial with the letus extreme and the ex1 and I couldn't be happier with the results. Really great depth of field, easy to set up, and the product seems to be very durable. Heavier than I thought it would be so i really recommend the rod system. After a long period of use I feel you camera would get damaged with out one. The only bad thing I have to say is the price its very expensive. If you have been thinking about getting one you should save up because now almost everything I shoot I use the letus i love the look of my footage : )

I just used the Letus Extreme in combination with the Sony EX1 on a music video and was very pleased with the results.
It´s easy to set up and attach, it feels solid and fairly well built.
It gave a very filmic/organic look to the HD footage, gave me great control of the Depth of Field.
I ordered the Letus with a Canon EF/EOS mount (because a friend have a lot of those lenses) which I regret as those Canon lenses don´t have an apperture ring on the lens so I had to put the lens on the SLR camera and set the f-stop, take it of the SLR and put it back on the Letus.
I have now ordered a Nikon mount since it seems easier to find good manual lenses second hand or ideally a set of Zeiss primes optimized for the Letus with Nikon mount.
One bad thing is that the image is not centered in the Letus, so you have to zoom with the video camerea to make the 35mm image fill the video sensor (screen). This is a common problem with adapators in this prize range I later discovered, not a big deal though, you just loose a bit on the wide end.
I also recommend to use a rod-support
