D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band USB Network Adapter for Windows
The Xtreme N Dual Band USB Network Adapter for Windows from D-Link is a USB device that adds draft 802.11n, 802.11a, 802.11g, and 802.11b wireless networking to your computer. "N" wireless networking allows for transfer rates that are many times faster than that of 802.11a/g devices, making it an ideal solution for performance intensive networks where slower speeds are insufficient. This is a great way to add wireless networking capabilities to your computer.
- Wireless-N Performance
- The draft 802.11n protocol allows for extremely fast data rates when used with other 802.11n devices. The adapter is also fully backwards compatible with the older 54Mbps 802.11a/g and 11Mbps 802.11b protocols.
- Long Range Connections
- Wireless-N devices can transmit at a distance four times greater than that of the standard 802.11a/g networks. This makes 802.11n a great choice for users who have postponed creating a wireless network due to distance or dead spots in coverage.
- Secure
- The adapter supports WPA and WPA2 wireless encryption. This ensures that the data you transmit over your wireless network remains private.
- Dual-Band Support

I puchased this to use on an older HP desktop computer that does not have wireless. I am using it with the D-Link DIR-655 Gigabit router. The software was easy to install and the connection was just as easy. The dual band part is a bit confusing as there aren't any references in the documentation about how to change it. Apparently the adapter chooses which band to use. Having the USB cradle is great. It allows you to move the adapter around to get the best signal.
