Comments about Buffalo 500GB LinkStation Mini Shared Network Storage (Black):
[...] I got this one even though CNET review specs, Buffalo website specs and even other distributors' website specs had mixed comments about the product's compatibility with Windows7. Fortunately, Windows 7 does have a feature in it to make upgrading to Windows 7 more palatable by pulling some XP drivers and dlls into Windows 7 to make other devices and apps more compatible. After calls to the help desk and researchign Win7, the running the set up CD was easy. The device is now installed and recognized as a drive on the laptop, but the Admin Utility still doesn't seem to show all the features in the web GUI that I should see. Buffalo's Help Desk wasn't constructive or helpful in resolving either of my problems and couldn't give me a timeline for when they'd be certified on Windows 7, IE 8 or Mozilla 3.6.8. At this point I can't do any advanced configuration on the product but am hopeful Buffalo will either post something on their website or I'll figure soemthing out.

This is my second one and super easy to use. All the features of more expensive models. If you are looking for a NAS this is the one!

Comments about Buffalo 500GB LinkStation Mini Shared Network Storage (Black):
I have been using the linkstation mini to back up my work files at a small office and provide off site access to them. It works as advertised but, be cautious of a subtle lack vs. its bigger brothers. It does not support FTP. This means transferring files one at a time from the web interface.
It is very small and very quiet. Doesn't draw much power and with the Memeo feature continuously backs up my work.

Comments about Buffalo 500GB LinkStation Mini Shared Network Storage (Black):
This product satisfied the following needs:
(1) Networked (FTP/SMB, etc)
(2) Quiet
(3) Basic redundancy (RAID 1)
(4) Cheap (though not relative to capacity)
There has been a hole in the product space for these devices for some time that I think this fills. I didn't need 4 drive arrays, I didn't want just an external HD, and I needed some basic redundancy. So, this beats the big Quads on price, beats the Buffalo Duos on noise, and beats boxed HDs on redundancy. I'd have bought the Drobo if it wasn't so expensive to get networked.
Other: Can be modded to run a general linux kernel. The HTML setup interface is reasonably comprehensive. Also, it does a bunch of cr-p I don't care about (media streaming, print servers, some other stuff).
Small: This is 250G in RAID 1, so if you're looking for video storage, go grab some massive drive-on-a-network product.

So easy to install i couldent believe it.
Just hook it up anywhere on your network, Pop the disc in and within 5 minutes its up and running.
Also comes with great buckup software.
(for use with home network only)
For my windows server 2003 network i had to buy the pro version of memeo software but it is well worth it.
Id buy it again and probably will.
Also great survice as always from B and H
