The Night Enforcer PVS-14 Pinnacle Night Vision Monocular takes the legendary performance of the PVS-14 monocular to a higher level with the addition of ITT's 3rd generation Pinnacle tube. The Pinnacle is an auto-gated, thin-filmed image intensifier with variable gain control; the operator has the ability to increase or decrease image tube brightness for greater image contrast under dynamic lighting conditions.
There are many different variables that affect the distance that one can see with a night vision device, among them the object's size, the level of details being sought from the object and the conditions of observation. Night vision devices detect much further under a full moon and clear skies than they will under a new moon and cloudy skies. Many different formulas are used to determine the statistic of maximum viewing range and the method of calculation varies by manufacturer. The important factors to consider when evaluating any night vision device are the intensifier tube's generation, s/n ratio, level of magnification, specified resolution, along with the clarity & light transmission efficiency of the optical system.
All night vision devices sold by B&H have mechanisms in place to protect the intensifier tube from a sudden burst of bright light, but this does not mean that bright light doesn't damage the device. No matter what, bright light in any form is not good for the longevity and performance of image intensifier tubes.

Comments about ITT Night Enforcer PVS-14 Pinnacle Night Vision Monocular:
The NEPVS14-17, ( "17"series meaning Pinnacle tubed )uses the 9815SLG, ( Select Grade ),Pinnacle image tube from ITT. a Gen3, thin filmed, with auto gated power supply. ( the " thin film" feature will provide a better quality image while maintaining a long service life ), ( the auto gated pwr. supply will pulse the power maintaining an image during bright light conditions while also protecting the imager from bright light damage, this along with the ABC/ automatic brightness control and the user adjustable image gain will maintain a usable image even during the most light polluted viewing / survailance ) If weapon mounted you should not exceed .223 caliber. ( The Pinnacle series tubes by their design, reduces halos around illuminated items in the viewed image but at the price of making them sensative to excessive firearm recoil ) The combination of the above light limiting and light managing technology make the Pinnicle series imagers a perfect choice for Law Enforcement use , ie CQB, Urbahn / city light polluted environments.
Now for the bad news - The latest lot of NEPVS14-17's from ITT, in this buyer's opinion, MUST be "Hand Sellect" , that is choosen for the buyer so that he / she will get the maximum quality image available. This latest lot of scopes come with data sheets so a selection of high specifications is possible BUT I have seen cosmetic blemishes ( smuges / smears in the image ), and LOW resolution ( grainy , not clear crisp images ). So to sum it up, nothing beats checking the image by eye and not just going by the data sheets. If you need a monocular with city / urbahn / light pollution in mind a Pinnacle image is the latest and greatest, just have the image pre checked to avoid dis appointments.

Comments about ITT Night Enforcer PVS-14 Pinnacle Night Vision Monocular:
I have some small experience with a number of other night vision systems, but so far this one takes the cake. This is by far the cleanest tube I’ve yet to use. Mine has no black spots at all. In addition to this, there is little blooming and I have to try hard to see any Halos from bright light sources. Also, only having to use one AA battery makes a difference. I can imagine the battery savings a whole unit would experience only having to use one battery per unit. Minor, but in the end definitely a plus. The weight savings are also minor but noticeable. Also, having used older PVS-14s with the dual battery setup I would have to say that the battery compartment cover, which is screw on and made of metal, is much better. I remember those breaking occasionally or not seating right. Those two plastic lips inside of the old battery cover also are now absent due to this much simpler way of sealing the battery into the unit.
The body style also feels sleeker compared with the older version. The ribs along the grip are slightly smaller and some of the edges are now more rounded. Again, minor but a definite improvement.
The kit comes with everything you’d normally come to expect. Lanyard, a couple pouches, lens caps, manuals, batteries, J-arm, and a couple other things. The supplied head mounting setup though is terrible. Good thing I only ever use it handheld or on my ACH. As generations of soldiers can already attest the Skull crusher mount leaves much to be desired.
The unit posesses a system warranty of three years and the tube has a five year warranty. If it goes down ITT should make things right. The unit even came with shipping labels, tags, and instructions on how to get it in for servicing quickly. I personally didn’t want to try my luck with any of the other manufacturers and felt that ITT had the most solid reputation. If I’m going to invest a lot of money in something I’d rather do it once right, rather than just go halfway and regret it later. Having used many different standard issue level NODs for several years now I will say this one is the best I have so far used. It hands down beats all the older issued PVS-14 systems I have used both in resolution, and handling of sudden high light conditions. If you have the money and are in the market for a solid monocular, go with the ITT Night Enforcer Pinnacle PVS-14.
