I bought these ear plugs to wear at the Indy Car Race - Baltimore Grand Prix. Even while sitting in the grand stands, the Indy cars easily make enough noise to damage hearing.

I found the EP4 provided comfortable protection over extended periods of wear. Basically, once at the track, I just left them in. The unique design blocks out higher frequency sounds above 85 dB, but allows you to hear normal sounds, like conversation. By contrast, the cheap foam ear plugs I have used in the past, tend to muffle all sounds while protecting you from high frequencies.

Downside - The only negative I found was that while I could hear conversations and regular ambient sound, the sound of my own voice was really weird. My voice sounded muffled and resonated in my skull. This made it hard to tell how loud I was speaking and often had to repeat things to those around me.

Overall - a great purchase. They were worth the added costs and the benefits out weighed the negatives. I would recommend to anyone going into a loud environment. I would also suggest the buyers check out the manufacturers website for a better explanation of how sound reduction ratings are done and how truly effective the EarPros are.

Don't let in enought sound when unplugged. Works well with electric saw and still talking to people in a garage or house. However, when i took they hunting, i could not here my partner sitting right next to me. They do work for loud noises. I guess this is the closest you can get to electronic.

I have used the Sonic Defenders for two weeks while shooting skeet and doves. They block out so much noise that you can't hear anything. I would recommend them to someone who is concerned about having their hearing damaged by loud noises, or trying to block out annoying sounds. They are pretty comfortable, but slightly large for my ears.
