The Audio-Technica AT8004 Handheld Microphone is a rugged omnidirectional microphone designed for ENG style interviews, speech capturing, etc. The omnidirectional polar pattern is ideal for capturing surrounding ambiance or providing a "forgiving" pick-up area for talkers who tend to move and change positions. The transparent audio reproduction results in natural vocal reproduction and the internally shock-mounted element minimizes handling noise. The AT8004 is an ideal solution for reporters, podium mounting and much more.

We have speakers, presentors and certainly graduates that come into our auditorium and hold the microphone like a sucker and we can't hear them With the AT8004 we can.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8004 Handheld Omnidirectional Dynamic Microphone:
Was looking for an omnidirectional mic that could pick up surrounding and directional sound at a good pick up rate. This mic is not as sensitive as I thought it was going to be.I would recommend for close up interviews and anything close proximity.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8004 Handheld Omnidirectional Dynamic Microphone:
We're a broadcast news facility that has a large installation of microphones. The mic of choice for us in the field since the station went on the air in the 1960's has been the EV635A... in fact we still have several of them still in use!!
I'm always looking for alternatives to the norm, especially if they will do the same thing, with the same quality, for less. That's been the name of the game in this tight economy for awhile.
When I had the opportunity to replace one of the old EV mics (someone lost it), I decided to give the AT8004 a try. So far, I've been impressed with it.
The quality of audio is very similar to the EV's, the build quality seems to be similar as well. Handling noise however is significantly less than the EV's, which puts a check mark in the plus column for the AT microphone.
The one thing I have noticed is the pickup pattern on the AT mic seems to be not as omnidirectional as the old EV mics.
And, only time will tell if if the AT mic will last 30 years or more like the one it is replacing.
As for now... so far so good...
