Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizing Filter
Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.
If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.
Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

I had a polarizing filter about 25 years ago, misplaced it and finally decided to get a new one, my lens takes 77m size and looking at the prices I was taken aback for a moment, some were several hundred dollars and then I came acrss the Tiffen one. I use it mainly to shoot outdoor scenes and apart from eliminating the normal glare from swimming pools or fountains it is amazing how rich the colors become on things you would never think had glare. It is a great product, have used it about 10 times since buying it.

I used this on a 24-105L Canon Lens.
I have a 58 Hoya that I love. It has a small white line to assist with 'aiming' the filter at a consistent angle during a pan for panoramas.
This filter does not. It simply has the Tiffen text on the rim. Also, it is not near as easy to thread on as other filters I own. It does work well once it is on, and is well worth the price. I am just used to the ease of mount and setup of my Hoya perhaps.

Bought this for a trip to Hawaii and worked nicely up until the point where my camera ate a huge wave. The polarizer still works but the camera doesn't. Brought a lot more contrast to the clouds. Sometimes a little difficult to remove

I don't think you can get anything better for the price. The build quality is on par with those filters that run for $100+ As far as performance, I am not impressed, but that doesn't mean it performed badly or disappointed me.

The Tiffen is 1/3 the cost of the Hoya, and works just as well. I have the 67mm Hoya, and the Hoya definitely handles nicer and has a more robust feel to it, but the Tiffen works great and have had no issues with it. It's a bit tricky to get the threads lined up at first but after it goes on a few times, it works like a champ. Optically, I can't tell each other apart. And it's made in the USA with a 10 year warranty. That's impossible to beat, I highly recommend it. My next filter purchase will be a Tiffen.

The polarizer itself works very well. Really removes glare and brings out the sky. Only complaint is that the threads have a bit of a problem aligning on both my 28-300mm nikkor and 11-16mm Tokina. Certainly not a big deal, but enough for me to take off 1 star.

I bought this to have a play with really. I enjoyed how it deepens the colours of the sky. It does feel a bit flimsy sometimes and feels like you might twist it off while rotating the polariser but other than that, with my amateur knowledge I am happy with it.

If you're shooting through / near reflective surfaces this is a must have. Minimizes glare and reflections off of water, glass and other shiny objects.
The much lower price of this filter compared to other brands made me think twice about it but it's Tiffen and they're trust-worthy. I imagine the cost difference comes from the fact that this is made of aluminum and not a more sturdy material. . .honestly though, what are you doing to your filters if you need expensive alloy frames for them?
Glass is clear of aberrations or colour shifts other than the +ND that you get with any polarizing filter. mechanism rotates smoothly and reliably. Polarizer works as it should.

Excellent for darkening the blue sky and making clouds 'pop out'. I bought it for my 10-20mm ultrawide angle lens. Because of the extreme angle the sky may be darker in one part than another. This is not a failure of the filter but a fact of nature.

Wow, I never knew how good a polariser can be. This is a must for anyone who shoots swimming events. I use my 5D Mark II, with my 70-200 mm lens.
If you can get in close, and you will see straight through the water so you also get the hands while under water. This filter stops all lights reflected by the water too. Images are completely different without it.
Images are slightly darker though, so keep this in mind as you may need to adjust to let more light into the sensor.
