The MDR-AS40EX active-style headphones from Sony combine the stable designs of both earbuds and earclip-style headphones into a single product that's great for people who are constantly on-the-go. The headphones include three different sizes of detachable ear hangers, and three different sizes of earbuds, allowing you to find the most stable and comfortable fit possible. You can also choose to remove the hangers completely, and use the headphones as standard earbuds.
In addition to the sleek and comfortable design, the headphones also offer outstanding sound quality. The neodymium drivers provide a wide frequency response with deep bass and crystal clear treble. Other great features of the headphones include moisture guards, to keep sweat at bay, a detachable extension cable, a cable clothing clip, and a hard carrying case.

The headphones are made especially for the gym. They are very well built and for this reason fit very well in the ear (they do not hurt at all like other headphones and one can hardly hear what is happening in the outside world). The cord is extendable and the case (little round case) is very practical. I just loved it. A real bargain for the quality you get. I forgot the principal: the sound is amazing!

I'm a jogger, so I was looking for some headphones that would actually stay in my ears while working out. On day 1, I grabbed them and headed out the door - only to find out that I needed the cord extender for my headphones to even reach my iPod, which was in my running backpack.
Not to be deterred, I tried again on day 2. And day 3. And day 4. I find I have to readjust them and push them back into my ear every 2 blocks or so.
They're okay when it comes to sound quality and comfort when I'm sitting on a plane or at my desk. There' just not stellar to work out with.

Use the product: Working Out.
Pros: They stay on the ear, even while running. I haven't had any tangle issues so far either.
Cons: Cord is short, but they include an extension... and it can be too long.

Comments about Sony MDR-AS40EX Active-Style Earclip Headphones:
These are lightweight and comfortable and great for running, biking and other physical sports. The ear clips obviously help keep things in place. The price is right and the quality, though not the best I've ever heard, is fine for exercising. On the downside, they have a tendency to pop out if sweat gets in your ear.

I bought these headphones for my 15 year old son. He says the sound quality is better than any other headphones he's used. And the (removable) clip is perfect for when he goes running. He's very happy with these!

Comments about Sony MDR-AS40EX Active-Style Earclip Headphones:
I got the sony mdr-as40ex headphones and was excited to try them out. [...]While Sony's packaging was impressive, and even came with its own plastic case, the true test would be in the sound. I was replacing a pair of sensa headphones that came with my mp3 player. The Sony headphones have a nice ear strap that holds well. Comfort is decent and they stay in place during exercise and moving about. The problem with these headphones is a complete lack of depth and no real bass. They were not as good as the sensa's i was replacing. For the money, the sound quality was dissappointing. I am putting them in the junk drawer with the rest of stuff I have wasted money on, hoping they would be something they're not. TWO THUMBS DOWN!

Comments about Sony MDR-AS40EX Active-Style Earclip Headphones:
I don't usually do reviews, but I had replaced a set of Sony headphones I have been using (same type) the last 6 years with the MDR-AS40EX. I was concerned with headphones staying on during exercising and the comfort of the headphone over hours of wear. Neither have been a problem and I think I prefer the earclips to the headphones I have used in the past. For me, the sound has been fine, not the best, but more than adequate. I have been using them often for the last several weeks and I am happy with them. I have a flight to Asia coming up and this will be my only headphone I take on the trip.

I've always used inexpensive headphones and never thought much about the sound quality. These are the first I've ever owned that sound noticeably bad.

These head phones are exactly as described. I was very surprised by the great sound quality. Not sure that I will actually use the case because it could take a while to wrap them everytime.

It's not that good for running - it gets out from the ear often.

i didn´t want to spend a hundred buck for noise reduction headphones, so i got what i paid for. they have various ear pieces for both inner and outer ear, so they fit well and block out a lot of ambient noise. i can´t complain.

They stay in place, sound great and haven't had an issue with any breaking buds. I would recommend them to a friend. Also like the short cord option, works well with hooking to a phone adapter.

Within two weeks, both of the little plastic housings enclosing the speakers, have broken completely into two pieces.
I was able to repair the housings with hot glue, and the earbuds are still usable.
I like the comfortable design of the product and the good quality speakers.
I hope I can continue repairing the product and keep it going.

I owned these headphones for about 4 months until T
the right side bud failed to produce sound or produce crackle in the sound. They do stay on and fit your ear well and the sound is pretty nice.
Too bad the construction is poor. Many users on the web experience the same problem. I would not recommend these.

Comments about Sony MDR-AS40EX Active-Style Earclip Headphones:
I found these headphones great for running!! They actually stay in place the entire time!! It also has the option for a shorter cord or longer if you need it so again you don't have all this extra cord flapping around when you run!!The base on the headphones is okay but you get used to them after using them a few times. Still worth the money!!
