The waterproof & dustproof Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Blue) is designed to operate at depths of up to 13 feet underwater and can operate at extreme temperatures well below freezing. A perfect camera for the outdoor adventurer as well as the everyday camera user, it incorporates a 5x optical zoom refraction lens that never protrudes from the camera body, yet it provides wide-angle shooting capability with a focal length of 5 to 25mm (approximately 28 - 140mm equivalent in 35mm format). In addition, a Digital Wide function provides an equivalent focal length of 21mm.
The camera can record still images at a resolution of up to 10 Megapixels with superb image quality and color rendering, plus the camera has a host of scene modes ideal for shooting scenes such as expansive landscapes, architecture, and group photos in confined spaces as well as close-up telephoto shots. Other features of the Optio W60 include a High-Quality Movie mode with HD resolution comparable to 720p HDTV quality, as well as Auto Picture mode, fast Face Recognition, Smile Capture, Blink Detection, an Underwater Movie mode, and the impressive High Sensitivity Digital SR mode that automatically adjusts the sensitivity up to ISO 6400 for sharp images of moving subjects - even in low light.
Users can use the camera's 2.5-inch IPS (In Plane Switching) LCD monitor to frame and view their shots, plus the display has an anti-reflection coating to reduce glare - even in bright sunlight, and the monitor's wide viewing allows users to view the display from nearly any angle. In addition the camera provides extensive in camera editing including built-in digital color filters, a dramatic fish-eye filter and a frame composite function for adding decorative frames to the images. The camera has both built-in and expandable memory using Secure Digital Cards, and the included rechargeable battery allows users to shoot over 200 shots on a charge, or view images in the display for over 3 hours on a full charge.

I beat the [*] out of everything I own, I white water kayak, rock climb, snowboard and cliff jump and I take my W60 with me every where. I mean the thing is indestructable. I owned a W10 as well and I would still be using it after 3 years of solid abuse if some low life hadnt stolen it. You will never find another camera that you can jump off a 50 foot cliff While filming, paddle down class 5 whitewater, through in your pocket and video a friend climbing 100 feet off the ground, or take snorkeling like we did in Mexico and Thailand. Best small camera ever I would by another if the thing would ever die.

Cons:
* Cannot set shutter speed or f.stop or the priority. It appears to adjust the ASA first.
* ASA over 400 is so grainy as to be useless - disable it! (along with digital zoom).
* Couple of times .jpgs transferred from camera to PC have been unreadable (could be my PC?)
* The wide angle lens gives the horizon quite a curve - only evident on certain compositions.
* Zoom controls on back of camera, precluding one-handed operation.
Pros:
* Use it in the rain, on the boat, in the pool!
* The photos are pretty good quality
* Has nice zoom.
* Press shutter button halfway brightens the LCD.
* Can zoom while in movie mode.
* Can program the 'green button' for quick access to settings you like to change frequently (white balance, ASA, focus mode etc).
* Powers on very quickly! Great for those unexpected shots.

Comments about Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Ocean Blue):
I bought the camera because I was going to the Virgin Islands and wanted a camera that would be sand proof and waterproof. This is both. I was able to shoot video and stills underwater and on the beach. It has a variety of modes including a 3-picture panorama mode that is a lot of fun.
The battery life is good, but not great and with the 4gb card i bought separately, i won't run out of space. The video quality varies but is better than my Flip video most of the time. The still shots (10 Megapixel) are very good.
One downside is that the lens has no lens cover or protector. This means you have to have a soft case and protect it. Also this one is not shock proof (another reason to protect it).
There is a shutter lag (as opposed to the DSLRs I am used to).
However, after seeing the images, I am really happy with it for the money.

Comments about Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Ocean Blue):
We bought the camera for our trip to Mexico, and just got back from our trip. We are very pleased with the underwater photos. The camera worked great and was easy to operate underwater. We bought an extra battery to be ready for the lengthy use. Based on prior reviews I read, I expected the battery to die much quicker than it did. We took nearly 100 photos in and out of the water. We were a bit disappointed by the out-of-water photo quality for a 10 mega-pixel camera - colors aren't as crisp. My 6 mega-pixel Kodak is much better. But we were pleased with the underwater and ocean shots. No problems with leaking. Would recommend this camera to others.

Comments about Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Ocean Blue):
I used this camera for only one week - at which point I forgot it was in my pocket and accidentally took it down to 50ft (and it filled with saltwater). Of the several hundred photos I took (using auto-focus), many were out-of-focus, and in this regard it seems worse than my previous Optio model (30?), while the camera's size and shape are an improvement over that previous model. The acceptable photos were quite clear, however. The numerous modes are overwhelming, e.g., six modes for pet portraits alone. Low-light performance seemed inferior to my prior camera. Battery life was very disappointing, important to note as the battery is a proprietary rechargeable lithium - be sure get an extra. The lack of optical viewfinder was maddening in bright outdoor locations - many of the shots were mere guesses at framing. While the overall performance was middling, I will replace my trashed camera with another of the same mainly for its unique all-weather ability.

Have used this camera as a travel camera dues to its small size, excellent case and the zoom feature to 5X. Even set on automatic the white balance and aperature settings were always set right.

Comments about Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Ocean Blue):
I wanted a camera that can go underwater (mainly in a pool) to take pictures and video clips. This camera fits the bill nicely. It is small, easy to use, and the quality of the pictures is great. The LCD underwater is a little dark, maybe I need to adjust the settings, but I managed to get the pics and video.

I really like that it is water and dust resistant. That was one of the main features I bought it for. I also like that is has 10 pixels.

Comments about Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Ocean Blue):
I have an Olympus Stylus 720SW that I've been utterly frustrated with (mostly due to missed shots due to shutter lag, but also illegible button lables). The Pentax has been way better and has the added advantage of using SD rather than xD cards. We took the camera to the beach and pool and it was well up to the task of keeping up with our 3 year old. Image quality is good, as are the movies. It won't replace my K20d bodies, but is great for a pocketable and relatively rugged camera.

Comments about Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Ocean Blue):
This works well. It has lots of modes that have actual verbal descriptions in addition to the usual inscrutable icons. You have to read the manual as the automatic mode may be too automatic forcing either face or smile recognition. Minor annoyance that it doesn't seem to keep track of camera orientation, so software can't autorotate the photos.

Nice small camera. I bought three of them and gave to my sons. All three will be using around water, mud, and outdoor use. Seemed easy to use. Because they are new to us, there were times we thought we were taking pictures but were actually in movie mode. Time will tell how these cameras will hold up and the quality of the images.

Comments about Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Ocean Blue):
I love the waterproof/dust feature. The zoom is also AMAZING> I couldn't stop zooming in on things just to see how close I could get. My last optio broke when a friend jumped off a cliff and slammed it on the water. I had to replace it because I just cant live without the waterproof now that I had it. The last camera was about the same price almost 3 years ago. I was expecting this camera to do circles around the last one. The black plastic material surely used to make it lighter feels cheap. I love the blue color and the huge LCD view screen. Its very similar to my last one so I have yet to learn something new. I have had a few memory card errors, but it could be my fault for not getting a new card or formatting this one. I dont want to put poor construction as a con, because I think it all has to be good, but it just feels so light and flimsy. So far no problems though. I am still getting over the lose of my first digital camera. I have a high end digital camera for working but you cant compare the size and waterproof feature!

Comments about Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Ocean Blue):
This camera appears to have equivalent performance to other compact cameras, yet it's waterproof. I've taken some HD video and about 100 or so shots so far. I'm as happy as one can expect from a compact camera, it's noisier than I'd like a little slow to react to inputs, and doesn't always focus on the right subject, but I doubt it' behind any other compact. Considering what is out there I am happy with the choice, but at the same time there is always room for improvement. Other than price I don't feel I am giving up anything to get a waterproof compact vs. a non water proof compact. Overall a great job Pentax!

Comments about Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera (Ocean Blue):
I purchased the W60 recently and was not pleased with what I saw. I took some test shots using different settings see how it performed. I was a bit disappointed with the noise levels at 400 and higher, plus the fact that the default had to be changed manually from 800 to a lower range.
The speed was average and the size was nice and compact. The waterproof feature is definitely nice to have, but so are low noise pictures
