The Gitzo GT2541 Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs uses advanced "Carbon 6X" carbon fiber material for its leg construction. This improved tubing is stronger, lighter and as resistant as its 12 layer predecessor. Carbon "6X" is manufactured using a complex, 3-D process weaving 6 layers of carbon fiber into smooth, solid constructed tubes.
The GT2541 is ideal for use with DSLRs with 200mm lenses (up to a 300mm maximum), lightweight camcorders, and spotting scopes. It offers an excellent load capacity rating of 26.4 lbs (12kg) and good torsional rigidity.

The tripod seems very stable and is a pleasure to work with - until it breaks... On a cold winter morning in the White Mountains mine lasted for about 2 hours (one of the hinges that connect the legs to the head broke off), leaving me without a tripod for the rest of the trip.Gitzo / Manfrotto repaired it without question, but it took them 4 weeks, communication was non-existent and I ended up taking my 20 year-old beater (a ridiulously cheap no-name Al-tripod) on the next two trips. Not what I expected from a [$] piece of equipment.P.S. Maybe the hinge was frozen when i used it, but i double-checked the instruction manual later: the tripod was well within its operating temperature and Gitzo does not recommending any lubrication to prepare the tripod for cold winter conditions.

This is a very expensive tripod. I hesitated for two weeks before I made the decision to purchase. Now after two weeks of using this tripod, I am very satisfied and have no regrets.

Fantastic light weight tripod. It is quite an investment, but if you want to buy something perfect for lifetime, this is the right choice! I bought the normal size instead of the larger type to fit it in my suitcase for traveling. It folds and unfolds very fast, they developed a good system :-)

Comments about Gitzo GT2541 Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 26.4 lbs (12kg):
I have a 70-200mm f/2.8 II, 24-70mm and 50mm, and I have no plans to go heavier than those (featherweight primes if anything), so this is the perfect lightweight support for around the house and traveling. Combined with an Arca-compatible ballhead and matching quick release plates, the feel is absolute rock solid and produces tack-sharp images. I know the 4th leg extension is classically where compromise happens but I've not found any shake issues at all, even with the centerpost fully extended (I'm 6'3"). And the legs extend/retract in seconds with the easy-to-use twist-locks so moving and setting up again is a breeze. If its good enough to be Thom Hogan's current kit (check his article on Support), it's definitely good enough for a pro-am like me.

Comments about Gitzo GT2541 Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 26.4 lbs (12kg):
Gitzo makes the best tripods so my decision was never what brand but simply what model suits my needs. The GT2541 is lightweight, sturdy and folds down to a reasonably small length. It was after much research that I decided on this tripod as well as deciding the best QRS, Arca-types. This is not an inexpensive tripod but I work with a D3s and did not want to skimp. I configured my support system around the D3s as follows: GT2541 with an Acratech GP-s Ballhead and Kirk BL-D3 Compact L-Bracket. For my purposes this combination was the best investment.

After much thought and even more reading of internet advice and reviews, I purchased a Gitzo 2541. This model looked to be the best compromise between stability, portability and flexibility. It just "feels" right. The tripod is very nicely made, solid and easy to set up. It is light enough and it folds up to an acceptable length, so I won't be inclined to leave it at home. It seems very stable when fully extended and it is high enough for me to not need to extend the center column.
This is not an inexpensive tripod, but I expect to have it for a very long time.

Comments about Gitzo GT2541 Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 26.4 lbs (12kg):
This is an awesome travel tripod because it's light (3 pounds) and compact when folded (21.9 inches). It can handle camera plus a lens up to a 70-200 or a 100-400 lens. I use a [...] BH-40 ball-head. But for studio work, a heavier 3-segmented tripod will offer more stability and vibration reduction.

It's lightweight, folds up small, unfolds fast, and it's extremely stable--everything I wanted in a tripod. It was very expensive, but I'll never need to buy another one.

I use this with my D700 and a BH-40 ballhead when I go on hikes and don't want to carry my bigger/heavier GT3530LS and BH-55 setup. Works great.

I got this tripod mainly for traveling since my 3530 its a little to big for a regular suitcase. SO far no complains. The 4 leg section may be the only "negative" thing about but as everything in life there has to be a compromise.

Lightweight and durable
Easy to set up and take down.
Added a ballhead and plate from Really Right Stuff.
Bought handle bar wraps from REI in lieu of buying "leg warmers" - very practical, colorful and cheaper.

Expensive but you gets what you pays for. I use this primarily for macrophotography with a long heavy lens (EF 180) and it's great. It's light enough that I'm not discouraged about bringing it with me, which was the primary problem with my previous tripod. I've only had it for a few weeks, but it's well-constructed and I don't foresee any problems.

Love almost everything about these legs. Super strong for their size and weight, leg locks are great, etc. My only real gripe is that I wish there was an easy way to attach the ballhead securely so that it didn't twist loose under load. Set screw maybe?

To the degree I use a tripod, the 2531/41 provides a great choice, especially if I can take just one tripod. It travels very well, and is plenty stable for pro-style DSLR's, with a 70-200 2.8 attached. The correct head makes all the difference in handling (i.e., how the camera/lens combo handles the tripod). I recommend Really Right Stuff's BH-40, and I would recommend their panning head, too, which improves set up, and accommodates panoramas done well.
The maximum height of this tripod - without the center column extended - is extremely useful for most shooters & situations. The center column works very well up to about 1/2 extension, with the tripods's solidity not compromised.
Versus the ardent carbon tripod competition today, one can't go wrong with this unit; it is neither oversized nor undersized for most situations & equipment. I've used this setup with a pro DSLR & a seven-pound lens, and all handled quite well.

I use this product on-the-go. At events, landscaping, etc. I use my heavier tripod at the home "studio". This tripod is well balanced, LIGHT, easy to carry with the included bag, PORTABLE, and sturdy. I'm 5'-9", and the 'pod is a perfect hight. Can extend for those taller folks. It can hold the weight. My biggest lens is the 80-200. It will hold and retains balance. I use the 327RC2 Joystick Head by Manfrotto. Heck, the head is heavier than the tripod! The only issue is the draw-string bag isn't long enough to cover the head. So, the head extends out of the bag. Quit wasting time searching online. Just get this and get going!
