Comments about Mace DVR-MINI2 Mini DVR:
Purchased this unit to record video from a security camera outside my home. Until now, I had been using a VCR to record the video feed, but it's a hassle to keep changing out tapes... and if there's an incident, you need to shuttle through hours of tape to find what you want.
The idea of a DVR with motion detection is great -- because I know it will only record video when there's actually something happening in the camera's field of view.
The first problem came when I unloaded this unit from the box. It's quickly apparent that the instruction manual was originally written in some other language and poorly translated over to English. Some words are misspelled, some sentences just don't make sense gramatically. Certain features are documented so poorly, I'm not sure if a "high" or "low" setting would be best-suited toward what I want this DVR to accomplish, so you have to test it through trial and error yourself, which can be time consuming.
As I mentioned, I wanted this unit for motion detection. Problem: the motion detection isn't that great. Since I'm using a wireless camera, there are times when the signal jumps -- and that gets recorded. I was expecting that, fine. What gets me is how there are times when NOTHING happens on-camera, but the motion detection is triggered. Conversely, there have been times when cars have moved by the camera (which is only about 10 feet overhead) and the motion detection did NOT trigger. How do you move an entire car directly in view of a camera, and NOT trigger the motion detection?
On other occasions, a moving car DID trigger recording, but the recording was delayed, to the point that anything identifiable (license plate, view of the driver inside) had already passed by the camera by the time the recording started... and this is a driveway, so cars are only moving at a few miles an hour.
Unfortunately, this is the only device of this type in this price range, so I'm stuck with it. The next best thing I could find are those 4-6 camera setups which cost several hundred dollars, and that's not what I need or want.
If you buy one, just keep in mind (since it's not in the product description) it can only take memory cards up to 2GB...seems it's a few years old an unable to handle bigger memory cards.

Comments about Mace DVR-MINI2 Mini DVR:
I called MACE Technical Support before I bought and asked if this dvr will record 2 cameras simultaneously since it is described as a mini2 dvr and they said yes. It seems though that it will only record the camera you designate as the main camera. It will allow you to view picture in picture simultaneously but not record simultaneously, only the designated camera you configure as the primary camera. I needed something small and simple to record 2 cameras simultaneously and since I could not get mine to do this I returned it. [...]

Works great but I was under the impression when I ordered it that it would continously record. The 10 second limit will probably work for a security application but not for my origional plan. If anyone knows how to modify for continous recording please post.
