The DRO Encoder for the JMI Telescopes EV or NGF Focusers is a logical next step for anyone who already has a JMI Telescopes Event Horizon (EV) or Next Generation (NGF) focuser and wishes to have digital expression of their focus position. A digital readout, with a repeatable number that represents the very point of specific focus on the faint and fuzzy deep sky stuff, is a critical improvement to both observing and especially imaging applications.
If you want to view or photograph a deep sky object that you've already mapped out with your digital focus readout, you can just adjust the focus until the digital readout's identical to what you recorded before-without any frustration from having to hunt around, check in the eyepiece or on the laptop, etc.
In order for your DRO's digital readout to display repeatable settings from one observing session to the next, you must leave the focusing assembly and this DRO Encoder in place upon your telescope.
The DRO Encoder combined with a hand unit can be used with computerized controller software programs; the required hand units have a recessed 9-pin RS-232 port on the top.
This physical encoding device doesn't include the required digital device which gives the reading and commands the focus position. This is a 'generic' part number which works with any focuser you've got, but B&H will contact you after placing your order to obtain the necessary information regarding your particular focuser.
